Just as yesterday, Y/N parked the 4x4 at the parking lot and went to open Yuri's door for her.
"You know, if you keep doing stuff like that, people are gonna think that you two are dating," a high pitched voice could be heard, "just imagine it, bahahah!."
Yuri's expression suddenly crisped.
"Hey there, Ai," Y/N saluted the girl, clearly bored.
"Aren't you going to say hello, bookworm?"
"Ai, there's no need for being rude," the boy stated calmly.
"Oh come on, there's no way that you actually enjoy keeping her company, you must be doing this out of pity..." she got closer, "a guy like you could be spending time with literally any other girl."
Yuri was blushing and looking to the ground.
"Ai, that's enough," Y/N slowly spoke, "You seem rather intelligent when it comes to coming up with new ways of mocking Yuri, but why don't you put all those neurons to work and deduce that you're not being welcomed here at this moment?"
"Tsk, whatever," she crossed her arms over her chest, "I'll see you in P.E. anyway... I hope you don't fuck up this time, Yuri. For your own good."
Ai went away walking with pride, leaving Y/N and Yuri alone again."I'm so sorry, Yuri..."
The poor girl was tearing a bit while she looked away.
"Here, let me—"
"N-no!" she stepped away, "she's... she's right. I know that you're just spending time with me..." she sniffed, "because I'm pathetic. I'm lonely and weird and no one wants me nearby. Sometimes I even feel left out in the literature club, and reading is one of the things that I love doing the most!" The other one was hanging around Y/N, but she couldn't just say, "I-I can't... understand why you are so eager to spend time with me..."
"Yuri..." the boy grabbed gently by her wrists, she flinched, but suddenly relaxed as he pulled her into a hug, "I'm not giving you attention out of pity. I'm doing it because I want to. I genuinely love spending time with you!"
She sniffed and tried to look away, but he grabbed her by the cheeks.
"No. Look at me. I want you to see that I'm not lying to you." she looked him in the eye, flustered, "I think that you're interesting, and cool, and mature and... well... just amazing."
Yuri felt her legs tremble. She wanted to believe him, she really did, but it was just so difficult to trust...
"I know you don't believe and that it'll take you time. But you know what? I'll be here for as long as it takes you to realize that I enjoy your company."
The girl was as red as a tomato.
"Th-thanks Y/N..." she hugged him tightly.
Y/N was surprised at her taking the initiative, but of course he didn't complain.
"I really don't want to go to P.E. today..." she sighed.
"I'll be there for you," Y/N reassured her, "okay?"
"O-okay..."
"Now let's go to class, I'll carry your backpack for you."
"Ah... you're too kind, truly. My back pain has gotten so much better since you started helping me," she smiled sweetly.
"Do you suffer from back pain regularly?"
He already could imagine why, but putting Yuri on the spot was both cute and funny.
