Snarling and howling sounding coming from very near, almost like it was by her side made Hayden woke up, and when she opened her eyes she panicked. Wolves were attacking their camp.

"What the fuck!?" She immediately got up and grabbed the first thing she could find to defend herself. A stick.

"Where's Taissa? Why didn't she wake us?"

One wolf was getting closer to her, making her crawl back, trying to kick it and using the fire to scare it away, but it didn't work.

"MOTHERFUCKER!" she yelled when the wolf bit her arm, throwing the stick on fire at him.

"Atkins, watch out."

The girls were trying to scare the other wolves away with fire when Taissa came desperately running.

"Where's Van!?"

"Where were you?" Hayden shouted at Taissa, but she didn't respond.

"Taissa, she's over there! Go!" Misty told the girl who went immediately went running in the direction she pointed.

Hayden held her arm tight, trying to ignore the pain as she followed Taissa. They found Van fighting against a wolf. She was far from them but it seemed like the wolf was attacking her face. Van's scream was desperate.

Taissa grabbed the flare gun she had brought and shot at Van's direction, trying to make the animal go away. But it didn't. So she grabbed the axe instead.

"Wait! Taissa!" Hayden tried, but Taissa was already on her way to kill the animal.

Her eyes were full of rage as she swung the axe up and down, multiple times, yelling, making blood spill everywhere. It was a horrible scene.

"Hey, Van!" Hayden approached the girl, shaking her to get some reaction while Taissa proceeded to kill the wolf.

Rolling Van over so she could see the girl and check her pulse, she almost fainted at the sight of her friend. It was awful. There was a hole in her cheek , the bone was visible and to make everything even worst she had no pulse.

Taissa kneeled beside them, covered in blood, checking on Van while fighting the tears in her eyes.

Not much long after, she was sobbing over Van's lifeless body, Hayden trying to comfort her, as the other girls approached them, looking terrified.

Taissa let out a loud and devastating scream. She was in pain and the girls understood they had to give her some time before doing anything.

"Tai, we gotta move her." Hayden put a hand on her shoulder a couple minutes later.

"I can't believe this." Taissa sobbed.

"Come on, help me." Hayden called the girls.

"Oh my god, Atkins, your arm." Misty pointed, concerned. "We need no cover it immediately.

She ripped off a piece of clothing and wrapped around Hayden's arm, so tight that it almost made her cry.

"Okay. Now help me." Hayden instructed as she got close to Van again.

They put Van on top of some branches, so they could set her body on fire. That way it would be faster and easier than burying her.

Taissa set fire to the branches, while she cried. The fire spreading as they all watched in silence.

Hayden stared at her friend, who would slowly catch fire, feeling awful for what happened. If she'd stayed up a couple more hours instead of Taissa,  none of this would've happened. Van would be alive, being the amazing girl she was, making everybody laugh.
