Almost a week has passed since I served those drinks and I have to admit that was not the most professional I could have been as a bartender but in all fairness, if you come to my bar and all you do is get on my and other peoples nerves it's on you. "Hey, this is ground control to Ethan, do you hear us?" Dylan said, trying to stop me from daydreaming about the events of last weekend. "Yeah, yeah I hear you, Dylan," I responded.
"Is that so? Then what did I say huh?" Dylan asked, knowing that I did not listen to him. Silence filled the room as I tried to think of something he could have said. "That's what I thought, I asked do you wanna go and get dinner or do you keep on studying?" He said, breaking the silence.
While finals were around the corner I knew that not eating also was not an option so I made a gesture to symbolize to him that I was just going to the toilet and then we could go.
"Any preferences dude?" Dylan asked as we walked through the corridor. "Nah, not really whatever you feel like is fine with me," I answered. "Okay, how about Chipotle-" "Everything but Chipotle, listen I know you love it but if you keep on eating there 3 times a week you will be broke before this semester ends." I interrupted him.
"Ok mum, but don't come after me if the food is not as good." He pouted. Whenever he calls me mum it's because I remind him of the 3 things his mum told me to remind him of. They're his 3 habits, he tends to fall into, whenever he is left unsupervised for too long. I still hear her voice whenever I have to go through the 3 of them. "First things first, don't slouch too much or you will look like "the hunchback of Notre Dam", secondly, don't play video games for too long or your eyes will turn into rectangles and thirdly if you eat too much fast food then you'll be poorer than Jamie." I recited her monologue while mimicking her voice to the best of my abilities.
"Yeah mum, I know. Man poor Jamie when she told you all of this he was already back on his feet." He answered. "True but I'm sure she will remind your brother for the rest of his life that his business idea failed miserably," I replied.
"That's for sure." He chuckled while we entered the cafeteria. Immediately we were met with a noisy crowd of students all chatting about different topics. We made our way to the end of the line and hoped that the food would taste better than it looked.
Like always the food was one thing and one thing only: eatable. Nothing more or less. But at least, this way Dylan won't have to worry about breaking the bank this week. Surprisingly enough, besides studying and fighting Dylan's habits, nothing really came up this week.
Even while working at the bar I didn't encounter any problems. With this week finished, finals were up and both Sara and I took the next two weeks off of work, so we would be able to have time to study between tests and still keep a somewhat normal sleeping schedule.
Anxious is the only way to describe what you feel during these weeks, but fully capturing the feeling, it does not. The feeling of learning for an exam while thinking about the exams you have taken already. Filled with the guilt you feel once you start to even glance at your phone. Surely a little break won't hurt my learning process but what if? Whenever I look over to Dylan's desk, or what one can see of it, I see him filled sitting there calm and collected. How can he not feel any pressure at all? "Yo Dylan. Dylan? Hey." I tried to gain his attention but he didn't seem to hear me so I stood up and walked over to him. "Hey!" I nudged his shoulder.
Finally, some movement occurred. "What dude?" He answered. It was at this moment, when I noticed, that he wasn't studying at all and that he was sleeping instead. "What?" He asked, half asleep. "Ugh, nevermind," I replied while going back to my seat. This man is a mystery.
I sat back down at my own desk and continued preparing for my upcoming exams. This time, however, I didn't feel as much pressure as before, almost like seeing him not stressing at all made me worry less about everything.
"Cancún here we come!" Sara exclaimed after we exited the exam hall. Our last exam is done and finally, we can focus on our upcoming vacation. From this point on till our plane landed, the huge smile on her face never faded away. The moment when those doors opened after we landed was when I finally lost all of the stress and tension I felt for the past weeks. The warm breeze that hit me was healing me from all those painful nights of studying till my eyes gave up.
Clear blue sky and a warm feeling like someone has you in a constant warm embrace. I looked around and I couldn't keep myself from smiling when I saw my friends standing just as in awe as I was seconds ago.
Tyson bumped into my side and said, "Now you can finally enjoy some of the delicious drinks you always mix Ethan." while we walked towards the bus terminal that would finally bring us to our holiday home.
A/N: I not even going to pretend like I didn't say that I would post more frequently just to do the exact opposite, so yeah anyway new chapter. Enjoy the rest of the week and hopefully, I manage to upload a new chapter sometime soon.
