bedding down and dozing off in lonely, forgotten places

it feels a lot like
lying down
and stretching out
in a patch of
warm earth
or some inviting nook
in a tangle of roots
showered with
sunshine
and birdsong

it's quite similar to
falling asleep
and being visited
by sweet,
smiling dreams
brimming
with all the love
that grows
in warm and
enticing crevices

and then---
after playing at love
in the company
of trees and grass
and their friends,
the insects---
it resembles that of
a forgotten corpse
coming alive beneath
an empty tapestry of
fresh snow
