Authors POV

In the midst of the chaos and confusion, Mike's voice cut through the tension like a knife. "What the hell are you saying, Briana?" he demanded, his tone a volatile mix of shock and anger. I could feel the weight of his disbelief pressing down on me, his words striking a nerve deep within.

My own frustration bubbled to the surface, my jaw clenching as I met Mike's gaze head-on. "How can you not see it, Mike?" I shot back, my voice tinged with bitterness. "Joseph's actions speak for themselves. He's the one who led us into this mess."

The air crackled with tension as we stood locked in a heated standoff, each of us unwilling to back down. But Mike's next words cut through the tension like a blade, his voice dripping with fury. "Leave this for now, Briana," he spat, his words laced with venom. "Focus on what's important—calling for help, arranging for the dead, and informing their families. We'll deal with Joseph later, once you have evidence to back up your claims."

I felt a surge of frustration boiling within me, but I bit back my retort, knowing that Mike was right. With a frustrated sigh, I nodded reluctantly, pushing aside my anger for the time being.

As I turned to leave, Mike's voice stopped me in my tracks. "Remember, Briana," he warned, his tone heavy with threat. "If you fail to prove this, I won't hesitate to tell the chief to remove you."

I clenched my fists at my sides, my resolve hardening as I met Mike's gaze one last time. "I'll prove it," I vowed, my voice a low growl. "Just watch me."

With that, I turned on my heel and made my way to the hospital to check on Emily.

Later, as I entered the chief's office, I found the entire team gathered, their faces drawn with concern. Except for Joseph and Emily.

"May I come in, sir?" I asked, my voice steady despite the turmoil swirling within me.

The chief nodded gravely, gesturing for me to take a seat. "Briana, we need to talk," he began, his tone serious.

I braced myself for what was to come, knowing that this conversation would shape the future of our team.
