Briana's POV

The chief's office felt suffocatingly tense as I took my seat, his steely gaze piercing through me like a blade. I braced myself for the interrogation that was sure to follow, a knot of anxiety tightening in my chest.

"Briana," the chief began, his voice grave, "we need to discuss the events of today's mission."

I nodded, steeling myself for what was to come. But as the chief's stern gaze swept over me, I couldn't help but feel a pang of apprehension.
To my surprise, everyone was there except for Emily and, of course, that traitor, the chief continued, his tone measured but tinged with disappointment. "Tell me, what happened out there?"

I took a deep breath, recounting the events of the mission-the losses we had suffered, the chaos of the firefight, and Emily's injuries. But before I could finish, the chief interrupted me, his expression inscrutable.

"And what about Joseph?" he asked, his voice cutting through the air like a whip.

I hesitated for a moment, the weight of my accusation heavy on my shoulders. "I... I heard him talking to the mafia men," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "He was orchestrating the whole thing... setting us up."

The chief's brow furrowed in disbelief, his gaze boring into mine with an intensity that made me squirm in my seat. "And do you have any evidence to support these claims?" he demanded, his tone cold and unforgiving.

I swallowed hard, the reality of my situation crashing down on me like a tidal wave. "No, sir," I admitted, my voice barely audible. "But I swear, I heard him. He's the one who betrayed us."

The chief's expression darkened, his disappointment palpable. "Briana," he said sternly, "you can't just accuse one of my best officers without evidence. This is serious."

But despite the chief's reprimand, I remained resolute. "I'll find the evidence, sir," I declared, my voice firm with determination. "I'll prove that Joseph is the traitor, no matter what it takes."

With that, I rose from my seat and left the chief's office, the weight of his disappointment heavy on my shoulders. But as I walked away, a fire burned within me-a determination to uncover the truth and redeem myself in the eyes of my team and my chief.
