Mai briefly considered where to begin. "Let me make this clear from the start. I'm not sure if I like other girls."
"Not sure?" Minato repeated, tilting her head.
"Mm. I also think learning whether I do is a worthwhile exercise."
Minato hummed softly to show she was listening.
"To that end, I have a few questions for you. First, have you ever been in a relationship?"
Minato shook her head. "I haven't."
"I see." Mai nodded. "If you entered a same-sex relationship, would you tell your friends or parents?"
"Um... Well, my friends already know about me. I think it'd be more convenient to keep it a secret from my family, at least while I'm living with them."
Mai furrowed her brow slightly. "Convenient?"
Minato grinned. "If I asked my mom if my friend could stay the night, it's way more likely for them to say yes than if I asked if my girlfriend could stay the night."
"Oh." Mai rose her brows. "I see. That does make sense. How did your friends react to your... preference?"
"It's a good filter, I think," Minato replied cautiously. "The ones who didn't like it, I'm no longer friends with, and I think I'm better off for it. I've surrounded myself with supportive people and my life is comfortable."
Mai mulled that over. "Any rumours?"
"Oh, certainly, but there's so many things to start rumours about with me anyway. One more doesn't bother me, and I prefer my friends to strangers."
Mai recalled the hobbies Minato listed and nodded in understanding. "You're mentally strong."
"Haha, that's one way to see it."
"Do you like boys as well as girls, or only girls?"
"Just girls."
"Is there any particular reason, or is it just how you were born?"
"Hmm." Minato ran through her memories. "I can't really remember ever being attracted to a guy. I think it's just how I am."
Mai leaned back and drummed her fingers on the side of her cup. After a thoughtful sip, she decided to move on to the interview stage. "Let's imagine it's ten years from now. I'm working from nine to five, and you're at home. What's your ideal night, starting from when I get home?"
"Hmm." Minato closed her eyes. "When do you bathe?"
"Before bed, typically."
"Then... I'd greet you by the door and help you take off your coat. If it was a really bad day, I'd hug you and rub your back. Otherwise we'd go to the couch first and cuddle for a bit until the stress of the work day goes away. I'd stroke your hair and maybe massage you. Then I'd ask what you wanted to eat and prepare dinner. I think the next two or three hours would be left for you to enjoy your hobbies, and I might lean against you or cuddle during it if possible. If the mood is right, we'd do some lewd things, then bathe together, then sleep together."
Mai kept a neutral expression, but was inwardly pleased. That matched her own imagination about what having a housewife would be like. "What are ideal dates, in your opinion?"
"Something we can both enjoy?" Minato tilted her head. "I don't know your hobbies or interests, really. We'd have to discuss them. Of course, the ideal would be that we just enjoy spending time together, but I'm not going to like, drag you to Comiket if you don't like it."
"Very reasonable takes. Next question, are you a top or a bottom?"
"Hmm... I mean, I don't have any experience, but I think I can go either way."
