Mai fluttered her eyes open and saw Minato staring happily at her, naked.
"Good morning," Minato chimed.
Mai lowered her face and buried it in Minato's chest.
Minato smiled and stroked Mai's hair. "Want five more minutes?"
"No. Just wanna hug you."
"That's all?" Minato ran her hand down Mai's back and squeezed her rear. "Nothing else?"
Mai glanced up and stared at Minato for several seconds, then lowered her head and slowly licked Minato's breast.
Around an hour later, they left the room and went down to meet up with Mai's parents. The adults stared at the girls as they approached.
Minato scratched her cheek and avoided eye contact. "Is it that obvious?"
"It's pretty obvious," Mai's mother answered dryly. "The last bit of reservation you two had towards each other has vanished."
"Ahaha..."
They said nothing more on the topic and continued about their day. After all, they'd brought Minato on the trip practically knowing it would happen and had silently given their blessings.
They spent their days having interesting foods and visiting beaches and spent their nights together, holding back just enough to avoid leaving any noticeable marks. They were still in Okinawa, still regularly wearing swimsuits.
On New Years Eve, they cuddled together and watched the NHK broadcast while sipping at chanmery, a non-alcoholic sparkling drink. They commented on the various performances and singers.
"Hey, do you feel attracted to these women?" Mai asked.
"Hm? Yeah, of course. Like, the singer in that group is super cute."
"I see. Like, you wanna have sex with her and stuff?"
"Um... Not that far." Minato shook her head. "I need some emotional attachment to want that. I just appreciate her looks and feel a vague desire for her."
"Hmm. I don't feel that for any of them."
"Do you feel it for me?"
"I did for a while, but I think I've evolved beyond that now. My desire for you is deeper than that now, more fundamental."
Minato smiled and moved a little bit closer. "Then, do you feel that way about any of the guys?"
"Most of them are too old for my tastes, but a few do appeal."
"So I'm the exception."
"It appears so. Do I not like girls in general, just you?"
Minato laughed. "I don't think you could do the things you did without liking girls on some level. Maybe you just need romance before feeling physical attraction to them. I think there was a word for that, but I forgot it."
"That's gonna be hard to test."
Minato rested her head on Mai's shoulder. "I hope the answer never matters."
Mai raised her free hand and stroked Minato's hair.
After welcoming in the new year, they settled down and went to sleep, too tired from staying up past their bedtime to do anything else.
The next day, they went to a shrine for the first shrine visit of the year.
As they waited in line, Minato sensed Mai felt troubled. "Anything wrong?"
"I'm not sure what to pray for," Mai replied. "There's a lot of things now. It's hard to narrow it down to one."
Minato giggled. "Then, let's just both wish to be healthy!"
