Minato had never been in an airport before. She followed Mai, dragging her luggage bag behind her, looking around at everything. It almost felt like a small mall, with lots of little stores mostly selling things aimed at tourists or people flying. Sleep masks branded with anime characters, Japanese food and snacks, clothing, alcohol...
At first, there had been quite a lot of foreigners. But, as they went into the area for domestic flights, that number went down a lot.
Once they arrived at their gate, Minato went to the windows and looked out curiously at all the planes.
"Are you nervous at all?" Mai asked.
Minato smiled. "Not about the flight."
Mai chuckled. "Silly girl."
On the plane, Minato got the window seat. She paid close attention to the safety announcements and made sure to do everything properly. Mai watched with amusement and didn't make any comments.
Minato stared as the plane moved across the runway and took off, the ground getting further away. "Ooh!"
Once they reached cruising, Mai asked, "Everything go okay?"
"Yep! No sickness, no popped ears."
The flight went on for three hours. Minato spent most of it staring out the window at her home country.
Once they landed and the plane came to a stop, Minato saw people standing up and followed suit. Mai placed a hand on Minato's side.
"There's no rush."
As Mai said, several minutes passed until it came time for them to get off.
The Okinawa airport was much smaller than the Tokyo one. The 'arrivals' area had a lot less of interest than the 'departures' one. They strolled through. The most interesting thing to Minato was the sign saying most IC cards, including her Suica card, weren't accepted. She didn't expect it to matter much, though.
Mai's parents had rented a car. They put the luggage in the trunk and drove to the hotel.
Mai and Minato had one room and Mai's parents had another. They were on the same floor, but not next to each other. They all checked in and put their luggage in the rooms before going out for dinner. They had some Okinawan soba, quite different than the soba Minato was used to.
They didn't have that much time for activities on the first day, so they soon returned to the hotel for the night. Mai and Minato took turns washing off, then sat together on the bed in their pyjamas.
"Are you impatient?" Minato asked, slightly teasing.
It hadn't quite been eight months, but it was only a couple weeks short. Plus, they wouldn't have such a good chance for quite a while.
"Mm... I was for the past months, but now that it's so close and possible, I'm okay waiting a bit more," Mai said. "We have a week, we can wait for a special night or when the mood leads us there."
"Alright." Minato sidled up to Mai and cuddled her. "But, let's not take too long. There's so many things I want to do to you, one night isn't enough."
Mai's cheeks flared up. She rested her head on Minato's. "I'll look forward to it."
The two softly kissed for several minutes and settled down to sleep in each other's embrace.
Of course, in Okinawa, they had to visit the beaches. Day two was spent doing just that.
They stayed out to watch the sun set over the ocean. Minato splashed around in the water beneath the stars while Mai watched from a short distance away.
