Helen

"Helen, if you don't wake up now we're going to miss the train!!" Hermione screamed.
I groaned, the sun was glaring through my blinds. The realization of what day it was hit me like a bus. Did I want to back to Hogwarts where I was always lesser then my perfect sister? No. Was I going to anyways? Yes. I sighed and finally swung my legs over the bed. I triple checked my trunk, and dragged it downstairs.
"FINALLY!" Hermione said, pulling her coat on, "you're going to have to eat on the train or something, we're already too late!"
I groaned. Nothing was worse then having to skip breakfast.
Hermione, my mom, my dad, and I all piled into our car, and rushed to Kings Cross Station. When we arrived, we had only five minutes to get onto the train. We sprinted through the barrier, and sighed with relief when we saw that the train was still there. Our father put mine and Hermione's things in the train, and then he and our mom said goodbye. They both left, and we were left on our own.
"I hope you don't mind Helen, but I'm going to go sit with Harry and Ron." Hermione said, pointing towards two boys, one with dark black hair, and the other with fiery orange.
I sighed and shook my head, "go do whatever you want. I'll find someone to sit with."
Hermione hugged me and sprinted over to the two boys.
And then, I was alone. I walked onto the train and found an empty compartment. I sat down, and pulled out my book, 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austin, and began reading. I felt the train move, and then someone opened the compartment door. I looked up from my book to see the four people I was really hoping to not see.
I smiled sweetly, "hello Parkinson, Malfoy, Crabb, and Goyle. What brings you here to my little compartment?"
Pansy Parkinson smiled back and sat down next to me, "all the other compartments are full, so I-we we're hoping that you would let us sit with you."
Even if it was the Slytherin bunch, I didn't really care. At least someone wanted to sit with me...
"Of course! There's plenty of room!" I said, gesturing to the empty seats. Malfoy nodded, and he and his goons sat across from me and Parkinson.
I put my book away, because Parkinson had started talking to me. We talked the entire way the Hogwarts. We laughed, teased, and even Malfoy had fun. Even the train stopping mid-way didn't ruin the fun we were all having.
"We should totally go to Hogsmeed together!" Parkinson squealed.
I nodded, "yes!! That would be so much fun!"
"Oh by the way Helen, you can call me Pansy. I think that we've become close enough from this one train ride!"
I nodded, "I will!"
The train stopped and we got onto the carriages. The five of us all squished into one. We all talked, and laughed the entire way.
We walked into the great hall, Pansy and I had an over-dramatic goodbye, and we sat at our individual tables. Dumbledore had his usual speech, and I saw Malfoy making fun of Harry Potter for some reason. I shrugged and dug into the food that had just appeared.
I felt like I had all the gold in the world. I had never had any real friends, so having four new ones on the first day was the best thing ever!

After supper, I went down to the Hufflepuff dormitories, and found my room. I sighed, plopped on my bed, and started reading my times table.
Defence against the Dark Arts
Herbology
Divination
Potions
Care and Keeping of Magical Creatures
Charms
Transfiguration.
I groaned when I saw potions. Potions was my worst subject, and I was not looking forward to the inevitable tutoring that I would have to have. Overall, I was pretty happy with my subjects, especially Herbology and Care and Keeping of Magical Creatures.
I started getting ready for bed, when an owl tapped on my window. I opened the window, and noticed that it was my owl Bennet. He had a letter in his beak, and I took it. I checked to see if there was any return address or something. The letter was blank. I sat back down on my bed, and opened the letter.

Dear Helen.
'We are all fools in love.'
I noticed your book on the train, and I remembered reading it. So that's a quote that I remember from it.
Anyways, Helen, you are one of the most amazing people I know. You are talented, and smart, and can make almost anyone like being around you. I hope that someday, I'll have the courage to tell you many things in person, but that day with not come for a long time I fear. So listen to the words on the paper that I am sending, and I hope to tell you everything soon.
Love, D.

I read the letter over and over again, trying to figure out every possible hidden meaning. I knew of a lot of people with a name that started with D. Not to mention that fact that it could be first, middle, or last name! Also, who saw my book on the train? I don't think Pansy Or Malfoy and his goons saw, so who could have? I stood up, walked over to my little writing desk, and quickly wrote a quick response.

Dear D.
'To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love'
Thank you for the quote, and the letter. I hope that one day you will reveal yourself to me, so that I may know what you wish to say.
Love, Helen Granger.

I folded of the letter, put it in an envelope, and handed it to Bennet. He somehow understood, and flew away with the letter. I walked back to my bed, and put the letter from D into my nightstand. I then climbed into bed, and went to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up on time somehow, and made it to Potions a little early.
"Ah Miss Granger, how nice of you to be on time for once." Professor Snape said in his monotone voice.
I smiled sweetly and sat down.
"By the way Miss Granger, I would like to see you after class." Snape said as more students started flooding in. I nodded, and caught Hermione's eye. Her brows furrowed in confusion and worry. I shot her an expression that hopefully said 'don't worry, everything is fine!' and turned to see Pansy sitting next to me. We quickly side hugged, and then listened to the lesson.

"You wanted to see me Professor?" I said. I knew what was coming.
"Yes, thank you Miss Granger. Now, last year your marks were... inadequate." I winced, and he continued, "So this year I have assigned you a tutor. You will meet every Friday evening, no exceptions."
I nodded, "who is my tutor?" I asked. Just as the words left my mouth, a tall blonde boy walked into the classroom.
"Malfoy?!"

A/n:
Sorry if this chapter seems fast. I just really needed to establish some of the characters and other stuff before the story truly started.
