Ditta drove out of the gated street waving at the security guards as she drove off.

She first drove to her bestfriend's house to pick her up. They always went to school together because Mitchell (her bestfriend) always said she was born to be a passenger princess, meant to be driven around. To this statement, Ditta would always roll her eyes.

"Would you please get in?" Ditta told Mitchell who was looking at her reflection through the side mirror, while trying not to sound as tired as she felt.

"I am coming. I just have to make sure I look as awesome as usual." Mitchell replied still fixing her hair.

"I'll literally leave your ass if you don't get in the freaking car." Ditta said more serious this time.

"Okay, okay" Mitchell finally got in the passenger sit and looked at the rear view mirror this time " I don't know what crawled up your ass this morning." She said adding a coat of lipgloss to make her already shining lips even more shiny. "We are not even late." She added after checking the time on her phone.

"Does not mean we should be." Ditta retorted.

"Whatever." Mitchell rolled her eyes and kept her makeup as Ditta drove out of her driveway.

"You seem tired. What's up? " Mitchell asked after keeping her makeup. She finally looked at her best friend and noticed how tired she looked.

"I'm fine." Ditta sighed when she noticed that her bestfriend was not buying it. "Just some stuff going on"

"Like what? " Mitchell crossed her arms. " You are getting everyone worried " she said softly concerned for her best friend of nearly ten years.

"Mom called you" Ditta stated rather than asked.

"She was worried." Mitchell sighed "and she's not the only one. You are always looking tired these days and you always seem to be lost in thought. Sometimes its like you are staring into space. " she sighed as she looked at her bestfriend who was driving. "I know that you are normally like this, but now, its happening more than before. You can tell me if something is bothering you"

Ditta did not want them worried about her, but she did not want them to think she was crazy. Because that's what everything was. Crazy.

Just as that thought entered her head, she felt her had heat up.

No no no no no no no no no no......Not now....

She quickly parked the car at the side of the road. They were still about ten minutes from school.

"-ways here for-" she also realized that she had stopped listening to Mitchell, but that was the least of her problems now.

"I will be right back" she said cutting Mitchell off.

"Wait, what?" where are you going? " Mitchell was confused, one minute they were talking and the next, Ditta was getting out of the car and running into the trees beside the road without any explanation.

Not now... please not now..

Ditta kept muttering to herself as she ran into the woods that runners and hikers used. She avoided the official trail as she ran deeper into the secluded part.

She hoped that she would not run into any runners or campers because people sometimes camped there.

As she ran she felt her palms get hotter as the heat spread up her arms.

She finally got to a spot where she could not see anyone and fell on her knees. She released a breath and let go.

That's when she felt it.
Pain.
Excruciating pain.

It felt like fire was going through every part of her body, wrecking havoc, and then it came out through the pores of her body.

Not as flames, but a heat wave.

If anyone was to come anywhere within a six feet radius of her, they would have most likely been suffocated from the heat.

The flowers around dried up at a speed visible to the naked eye, while the heat waves became visible with her at the centre.

Ditta held herself from screaming in pain as groans escaped from her lips.

Mitchell was starting to get worried as she had been waiting in the car for over twenty minutes.

Everyone knew that Ditta would never allow herself to be late to school. She had only been late to school the week after her father left her and her mom. Apart from that Ditta was never late to school.

Yet, Ditta was going to make them late to school today after suddenly jumping out of the car like the hounds of hell were after her.
All these coupled with Ditta's behavior recently made Mitchell even more worried.

The opening of the car door snapped Mitchell out of her thoughts.

"Let's go" Ditta said as she jumped into the driver seat, immediately starting her car.

Mitchell stared at Ditta even as she started the car.

"What? "

"We are going to be late"

"How many minutes have we got? "

"Ten"

"I can make it" She immediately sped up.

Mitchell decided not to ask about what all that was about. She knew that Ditta would not answer her anyway.

______________

"Meredith, Can you answer the question on the board? " Mrs West, the Mathematics teacher called.

This presently the second class of the day and Mrs West had caught Ditta spacing out for the third time in this class so she asked her a question.

Ditta sighed as she stood up. She barely managed to stammer an answer which was barely correct luckily for her.

"This will be your last warning, Meredith." Mrs west said sternly as she allowed Ditta to sit.

Ditta slowly sat down with her head down. She felt like everyone was looking at her.

Ditta might not be the typical introverted nerd but she had always been the good girl who was never scolded by the teachers. Now she had been caught spacing out in class, three times in one class.

She saw Mitchell glance at her worriedly and she nodded to let her know that she was fine.
