"Meredith, I would like to have a word with you" Mrs West's voice stopped Meredith just as she was about leaving the classroom.

She froze for a split second as she entertained the thought of ignoring her teacher's voice and acting like she did not hear her.

"Meredith? " Mrs West called again.

Meredith sighed and told Mitchell that she would meet her at the cafeteria before fixing a smile on her face and slowly walking towards Mrs West.

She knew why Mrs West wanted to see her. It was obviously to ask her what was the problem and maybe ask if everything was okay at home or if she was having issues with anyone.

Maybe she would also remind her(Ditta) that she can talk to her anytime and about anything.

But how could Ditta tell a teacher that she was distracted during the class because she saw shadows of weird creatures crawling around her legs.

How could she tell her teacher that her only issue was that her hands heat up randomly and that one time her palm became so hot that it burnt a mark into her table at home.

Or that if she was fully relaxed while awake, she could see colours floating in the air surrounding others.

Or that recently, if she listened hard enough she could hear a voice whispering just out of her hearing range and if the place was quiet enough, she could hear a few broken words.

How could she tell this to her teacher?
The answer is, she couldn't.

So she smiled, listened to Mrs West and then told her that everything was okay.

I am totally not crazy. She thought to herself as she walked out of the classroom and towards the cafeteria.

Ditta walked down the quiet hallway as she ignored the whispers that she could barely hear.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. She paused as she listened closely.

At this time, most kids had either gone to the cafeteria or wherever they chose to eat. So it was normal for her to be the only person walking down the hallway.
This meant that the footsteps that were quietly getting closer to her were abnormal.

Ditta felt her heart race as she walked faster.

'It could be anyone. It could even be the goddamned janitor. So freaking calm down!' She tried to comfort herself even as she increased her pace.

The footsteps also sped up and Ditta felt her fist clench over the strap of her bag even as she walked even faster.

At this point, she was practically speed walking. She didn't want to run so she would not look crazy to the person behind her, whom she was still trying to convince herself was either the janitor or a random student who might have also been held back by a teacher.

She felt her breath hitch as the footsteps suddenly sped up and was practically a few steps behind her.

A tear dropped from her right eye as fear engulfed her.

Ditta could not get herself to look back incase she saw something she so badly did not want to see.

She saw a turn that led to the cafeteria. She was so close.

The footsteps were gaining on her. She could hear heavy breathing along with the footsteps now.

Tears streamed down her face now. She felt herself very close to panicking.
