"WHAT?!" Caleus and I shouted together.
"Wait so does that mean I am about to become an uncle ?" Caleus asked.
She nodded.
"But if they find out they'll kill you and the child both and that too mercilessly," I warned her.
"I know and James and I want the baby in our lives. We don't want to kill it. And I don't want to go away from James. Dad hates James and never lets me meet him. We used to sneak and meet up."
"That's where I came in, well it was Nicole who came to my house and asked me to help her so in turn I suggested meeting you two. But Nicole here was in such a hurry to meet you both that she went alone." Ms. Shelmon came up.
I nodded. Then we heard a grumble. All eyes averted at Nicole. "I am sorry." She reverted.
"It's ok. I'll ask Bob to buy you something." I said
"Helios, sweetie, a word if I may?" Asked Ms. Shelmon
"Sure," I smiled.
"Privately..." said Ms. Shelmon
"Oh, sorry." Foolish me
"Bob please take Ms. Nicolette to wherever she wants to eat and take some cash. It is a code 2 so... um.. take care." I spoke over the intercom.
Bob is a reliable man. His father worked for papa (my grandpa) and his son Bob followed his father.
"Caleus, can you please wait?" Ms. Shelmon politely inquired
"Umm... I can't-" he began
"Caleus, stay" I gave him the death glare. It is the most effective way for someone like Caleus.
"Okay," he agreed
Shortly after Bob came in and left with a couple of hundred dollars and Nicolette.
"Yes, Ms. Shelmon?" I asked
"After you left, things haven't exactly been perfect or good at all for Nicole." Ms. Shelmon began
"I am sorry, what are you trying to imply?" I inquired
"Just let me complete. I'll leave the decision to you later but just hear me out for once." She said
Caleus and I nodded.
"First few weeks Mr. Julius was caring and always pampering Nicole. But after some time it all changed, he showed her his true colours. The drastic turning point was when the news of Aurora going to your grandpa reached him, he just,... I don't know ...got traumatised. He started to drink, bring other women and beat Nicole." She sighed deeply. A few tears were threatening to fall yet her voice didn't fumble.
"But she tolerated all that quietly. She was pulled out of the school and was home tutored. Poor girl lost all social contact except whenever she was allowed to go out for her concerts. She also has tried to end her life many times but was always stopped at the right time. Cutting herself every day, crying about her life, being beaten it was all a routine. This sight of her was unbearable to watch. Then she met James Kennington, a nice young lad. They fell in love. Your sister's condition improved dramatically. But somewhere Mr. Julius disliked this relationship. He probably had signed the contract before they had their relationship." She said
I sighed heavily and looked over to Caleus who had his mouth agape. I had started to fell pity for my poor little sister. Victory as papa (grandfather) and I used to call her, had suffered a lot and we couldn't protect or be there for her.
"Why did she never speak out or reach back to us, Ms. Shelmon?" Caleus asked
He definitely had a point here.
"She was since the beginning against staying with Mr. Julius but Mr. Julius used to threaten her that if she did something foolish he would target your mother. Poor girl was living in the dark, she didn't know anything about the outer world or about the feats you and your mother had achieved. That was why she was so easily threatened and pressurised by Mr. Julius." She told.
"I was surprised when she showed up at my house late evening. The next morning I received a message from Mr. Julius saying that there was no work then and that I should take a day off since they were going on vacation. But I knew that there was no vacation, it was all a lie to hide Nicolette's disappearance."
"So, when did the contract come up from?" I asked.
"A week back," said Ms. Shelmon.
"Hmm..."
"Was there any strange activity or anything suspicious going on with Julius?" Caleus asked.
"Nothing that I know of." Ms. Shelmon answered.
I received a message from Bob that they were back and "things were kinda out of control".
