E fiddled the pages in a book he had been reading for a while, always re-reading it over and over. The small library was silent; it was usually filled with the guards, scientists and sometimes kids if they got permission. But right now, it's only a few guards, and E. He felt like a child; he's fourteen, he shouldn't need a babysitter. He was the oldest kid in the lab.
His mind wandered off to remembering that there was a new kid in the lab, and requested E to find a file with their experiment number on it, to have some sort of 'grip on reality'.
He worried at his lower lip, before watching the guards' every move, waiting for a chance to go to the file room. It was always locked, and it was prohibited for the children to even step foot inside.
The guards had a key, E remembered. It would take a hell of a chance and a prayer to a God he didn't believe in for it to work, but even with a prayer and hope, it was unlikely that E could pull off a plan like that. But he quickly remembered; he was the most experienced kid with illusion-manipulation powers. He could trick the guards, and likely steal the key to the file room.
The scientists have been giving him medication to falter his powers, because they caught on the fact he'd been taking advantage of his powers to trick guards, mess with the other kids and get himself out of experimenting hours, social times and such just to be alone.
Maybe just this once. Just this once it could work, even if it didn't; he still tried, and that counts for something.
E still watched the guards' every move, waiting for the right time. Nothing ever seemed like the right time for anything. His index finger twitched slightly, as he focused on creating an illusion to trick the guards, but he was too slow to even do so.
One of the guards locked eyes with E, and pulled something out of their pocket; a syringe, and a small sealed vial,
Before E knew it, he felt a jab at a vein near his inner elbow, and he lost consciousness.
