PERCY CLOSED HIS EYES, trying to refrain from gagging as a man exited the bathroom and scooted past his seat. "there is no way this is what sacred smells like."

matilda and annabeth rolled their eyes in unison. "we're soldiers on a mission. its not a vacation." annabeth told him. he pursed his lips, turning back toward the front of the bus. "thank you for clearing that up." he responded sarcastically. "but if this is so important, why didn't chiron spring for plane tickets?"

matilda raised her eyebrows, giving percy a disapproving look that said 'is this kid serious right now' all over it. "percy... you're a forbidden kid. zeus is probably already angry at poseidon for breaking the pact. he doesn't want you alive, would it really be smart to fly? the sky is his domain." matilda said. percy looked confused as always, and stayed silent for a moment.

"but zeus broke the pact too. why is he mad at my father?" matilda rolled her eyes, trying to keep her patience with this kid. "just enjoy the stinky bumpy uncomfortable bus ride, kay?" her pursed his lips again, but turned away anyways.

matilda was silent for a while until the finally pulled into a truck stop. "i'm gonna go get us some snacks." annabeth stood up, straightening out her shirt. "i'll come with you." percy said, beginning to stand up until annabeth turned to him. "no, you'll stay right here." he sat back down and looked up at her.

"why? it smells terrible back here!" matilda sighed. "the stench helps mask the smell of demi-god so monsters are less likely to smell you in here than they would be in the gas station."
