"New Friend? Hello!"~ | ☀️ | ~
Poof! The one-and-only DogDay was right there behind you, in real life! Right before your very eyes! Saying you were in disbelief was a tad bit of an understatement. But was Dogday the fluffiest thing you'd ever seen? Heck yeah, he was! You could even say he was fluffier in real life compared to those cheap advertisements. Dogday was the spitting image of his own on TV, you could hardly tell the difference!
"Heya, buddy! You must be that newcomer!" The canine beamed in excitement, despite the void of black in his eye sockets; his contradicting in colour pupils being the only leverage to spare emotion.
Still, the feeling of uncertainty swirled around your mind like thick clouds.
"Well, nice to meet'cha!" He hunkered down and propped his knees against the ground, offering an arm forward for a handshake.
You responded blankly. Your eyes still gawked at his figure, starstruck, like a deer in the headlights. Dogday tilted his head to the right, ears following suit; flopping in accordance to his adorable gesture.
"Not a handshake kinda person? Hm..." He propped two fingers against his chin, all in a playful air.
"Then..." In the blink of an eye, he leaned forward and trapped you in between both his arms, warmth and fur surrounding your body. "Hugs!"
You flinched at the sensation initially before melting in his arms. Feeling each bristle of his fur brushing up against your skin was comforting, what could you say? It didn't help that the mascot himself was nuzzling against you with enough affection to last you a year.
You stifled a giggle, earning one from Dogday himself. "Hehe, your laugh is cute, newcomer!"
He pulled away, stripping you from the fluffy comfort of his yellow and orange fur. He held your hands in his, gazing at you openly, but with the lack of ill intent. Instead, curiosity was written all over the mascot's face.
"So, what do you wanna do?" Dogday, staying true to character, perked up and began leading you to the daycares main centre of fun - onward to the attractions!
"Ooh! Ooh! We could go painting with Craftycorn! She's the best painter I know!" Dogday blatantly pointed to his friend unicorn, who had been teaching other children how to paint.
Boy, did she have her work cut out for her. She wasn't sure how to respond to the joyful scribbles of toddlers, so she just clapped funny at their attempts.
"Or... Or we could go for a good ol' cat nap with my buddy Catnap?" He jested. You glance around the daycare, but Catnap's location was unbeknownst to... anybody and everybody around the establishment.
"Sure, he's a little more... secluded... compared to everyone else. But he's still one of my best friends!" Dogday flared in ecstasy again, insistent on leaving the topic out of the table.
"Or... A-ha!" He seemed particularly thrilled about this next notion of his... "We could go for a round of fetch?"
"Not to brag or anythin'... but I'm kinda the best fetcher 'round these parts..." His hand dusted his shoulder lightly, a little sliver of pride accompanying his gestures. He snickered, before turning to you.
"So, what's your choice, friend?" His eyes trailed down to your figure, awaiting a verdict like a little puppy waiting for their owner to rethrow their favourite toy ball after their "last" round of fetch.
Silence...
"... Y'know, you don't really talk much, do ya?" He kneeled down by your side, coyly nudging your shoulder with a light-hearted grin.
You were red in the face out of embarrassment. Of course, it still seemed overwhelming - meeting your idol and living the rest of the day 'independently', without mom (and with the company of friends).
"Hmm... Then how about we..." A glint of mischief shown in Dogday's eyes.
"Fetch!" Before you could even react, you heard a tiny, yet, distinct squeak come from your front yonder, toward one of the play areas of the daycare.
He ran forward, waving to you with glee,
"Last one to the ball gets no treats!"
