Chuuya huffed a breath, making a tiny cloud of smoke due to the low temperature. "Where are we even going?" He questioned the brunette who was happily skipping in front of him.

"It's a secret~" he replied with a wide grin plastered on his face.

His short-tempered friend however kept asking, of course, without getting a straight answer. He got more impatient each passing moment and the younger didn't help much.

At some point he finally gave up asking, realizing he wouldn't get his desired answer. "Are we there yet? It's 6 o'clock and I promised dad I would be home by 7:30."

"Almost there slug. Trust me, it's worth the wait!" Dazai said excitedly.

He suddenly stopped, almost making the older trip. "Hey watch it-" the ginger yelled but soon got interrupted. "We're here." Dazai announced calmly.

That relaxed expression on his face wasn't something Chuuya was used to so he had to take a few seconds to admire it.

"So... Why are we at the beach? It's the middle of the winter. I truly hope you're not thinking about swimming. If you do, just know I won't follow through, I'm freezing." The shorter looked into the other's soft eyes and his lips curled for a reason unknown to him.

"I just... love watching the sunsets at the beach. I thought you would enjoy it as well." He struggled which was totally different from his usual teasing persona.

Chuuya started doubting the teen next to him is actually Dazai. They havent had an argument in some time now, he didn't get teased by the other at all and Dazai was acting so unlike himself. However, he didn't mind it. In fact, he preferred this side of the younger. Plus, he didn't want to ruin possibly the first ever civil conversation they were having.

"I do love the sunsets as well... Fine we can stay." He finally agreed and the brunette practically bounced on his feet.

"Look Chuuya! That's the perfect spot for us to admire the view, c'mon!" He pointed at a rock that was by the sea, waves hitting it slightly.

They both climbed the rock and sat on the very edge of it. "If you're planning something devious- like pushing me off- I'm gonna kill you" Chuuya deadpanned but Dazai seemed totally unfazed.

The cold breeze hitting them, making Chuuya shiver slightly. Then, the boy next to him did something totally unexpected. He wrapped the soft and quite expensive jacket he was wearing around Chuuya's shoulders gently.

The ginger's jaw would've dropped if he hadn't composed himself. To his surprise, he was met with soft giggles coming from the other. He was neither teasing nor making fun of him. It was in fact genuine giggling.

Silence settled though, none of the teens took the initiative to start a conversation.

The silence was soon disturbed by quiet sobbing. Chuuya immediately glanced at his side, only to see Dazai with glassy eyes, tearstained cheeks and his hands wiping his eyes furiously.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" He placed his hand on the younger's back in attempt to soothe him down but to no avail. The brunette continued sobbing and heaving, his hands wiping even more furiously than a few seconds ago.

Dazai never cried. Chuuya had only seen him cry once and that was years ago, when they were approximately 9 so he hadn't the slightest idea of how to comfort him. Rumors spread around school that he was unable to cry since his classmates who shared the same class with him for at least 7 years, had never seen him cry. Frankly, even Chuuya believed the rumors for an embarrassingly long while.

He was broken out of his stream of thoughts when trembling hands wrapped around him, bringing him into a tight embrace. That came as quite the shock to the ginger as Dazai despised any form of physical contact. He never let anyone touch him, not even Chuuya. Yet, he was now hugging the male so tightly it was almost suffocating.

Chuuya soon relaxed in the embrace and hugged Dazai back. He rubbed circles on the other's back which successfully soothed him.

Dazai pulled away reluctantly. "So, want to tell me what that was about?" Chuuya questioned softly trying his best to not sound like he was insulting the other. The brunette paused for a minute before whispering something barely audible, although, Chuuya heard it clearly. "My mom used to bring me here, to this beach, when I was feeling down and we watched the sunset together..."

Chuuya felt stupid for not realizing earlier. A few years ago Dazai wouldn't stop rambling about how his mom took him to this specific beach once a week. After his mom's tragic death, he became a closed shell and kept all his feelings and emotions to himself and since Chuuya didn't want to push any boundaries, he didn't insist on talking about the matter.

"I'm sorry for... breaking down in front of you..." He gave a quick apology which the older found completely unnecessary. "Don't apologize for shit like this, Dazai. Just know I'll be here whenever you want to talk about anything."

Dazai gave a small genuine smile and checked his watch. "Oh... It's 7pm. If you don't leave you're going to be late." He announced to which Chuuya merely shrugged. "I'm sure my dad won't mind. Plus, if I tell him I'm hanging out with you he won't even give me the "No coming late" lecture. Seriously, I don't get what good he sees in you." Chuuya scoffed and Dazai flashed a wide grin. "I have that effect on people." He said confidently and they both giggled.

Dazai huffed a breath and leaned his head on Chuuya's shoulder. The ginger put his hand on the other's head and started playing with his soft brown curls.

They watched the sun set in comfortable silence. If Dazai noticed Chuuya was ignoring his buzzing phone, he said nothing but smiled fondly
