Taehyung sighs, deep in thought as he sits down on a wooden chair whilst staring at a little child he is supposed to watch over today.
He is on field duty─ meaning he gets a random human or even animal assigned to him with the obligation of keeping them safe during the entire day.
A literal guardian angel, so to say.
He doesn't have to worry about ordinary human beings actually seeing him, since he can make himself visible and invisible on command.
That, however, does translate to the fact that when he flies to help when in need, people can certainly be gushing and absolutely mindblown over 'how did you just survive that?! That's impossible!'
But every time that happens he can only smile to himself, knowing the ordinary life will forever wonder about existential matters, never finding a proper answer but always safe due to the angels' hard work all over the world.
Standing up from his seat, he follows after the small kid, watching with a soft grin on his face as she plays around with a few favourite toys.
"So this is what you do in your spare time? Interesting."
The angel yelps, wings lifting him up in the air for a split second and from shock loses a few feathers.
He hastily turns around, brown eyes turning wide as saucers when he locks his gaze with Jeongguk.
The devil smirks at him.
"Y─you? What are you doing here?" He mutters out in surprise, his beating organ roaring to life.
"Oh you know, just fulfilling my task as the little devil on someone's shoulder." He shrugs, glancing at the kid in front of him.
"W─what's the real reason? Creatures from Hell don't have field duty." The angel questions, glancing the man up and down.
Like this, one would be inclined to take him for a regular person. No horns or cloudy halo, no crimson eyes, no wings or visible red aura.
Except he isn't a regular person─ there are the obvious yet now hidden reasons, but the male is actually so exceptionally attractive, anyone would know he isn't from the normal world.
Or, perhaps, that's just how Taehyung views him, but he'd much rather believe that's how everyone sees him.
There's a silence after the angel's inquiry.
Jeongguk grins knowing the other is scanning him up and down, eyes solely fixated upon him.
Somehow he relishes in it.
He takes great joy weaseling himself into the other's head, stripping him bit by bit from his innocence by mere stares and words.
He turns his head and their gazes lock.
The angel is looking absolutely and undeniably adorable with only his wings out, giving away what he really is. His big, pure caramel brown eyes and ever so slight pout evident on his lips.
The small and fragile male before him is everything the devil himself is not─ and for some reason he can't help but be intrigued.
Taehyung doesn't know how to interpret the silence and the stare. He can't help but feel as if his earlier question somehow has been answered, yet he still doesn't know what it is.
The longer their eyes are glued at one another, the longer Taehyung's thoughts start to roam. Involuntarily his absurd dream comes to mind and plays out again, causing his cheeks to flare up and chest to heave up and down unevenly.
"Shh, little angel, you have to keep quiet if you don't want to stay locked in my grasp forever."
And it's almost as if he can actually hear the man before him say it.
"You.. you can't be here." Taehyung mumbles, averting his orbs back at the little kid, trying to block the other out.
But that's simply impossible, since he already managed to find a way in.
"I know, but creatures from Hell don't care much about rules darling," Jeongguk starts, taking a few more steps towards him and stopping only when his warm breath ghosts over the angel's neck and leaves goosebumps in its wake.
"And as the devil himself, I couldn't be bothered less," He mutters lowly in his ear, causing Taehyung to freeze to his spot.
"Moreover, something is telling me you don't mind my presence as much as you act like it does.." He continues in a husky whisper, and Taehyung really thought it couldn't get any worse until the male goes,
"I bet you've even dreamed about me, little angel."
All air is knocked out of the poor boy's lungs because of a simple accusation.
Only, it wasn't simple, rather sinful─ and it wasn't an accusation, they both knew it for a fact.
He starts coughing, feeling like he is vibrating on the spot. The crimson on his cheeks spread over his entire face, turning impossibly darker.
"I─I have not! That's nonsense, I'm an angel, I wouldn't commit such an immoral act─" Taehyung starts rambling while stuttering ten times over, stopping abruptly when the other starts laughing in that all-too-perfectly pitched and provocative voice of his.
"I'm just kidding, angel Taehyung," Jeongguk says, pressuring the fourth word as if he decides to believe him. Yet his tone indicates he knows better, however signs to leave it be for the boy's sake.
He found great pleasure in watching the male lose his composure and mind over a mere dream.
But he can't blame him─ after all, he had the exact same one and it managed to leave him just as breathless and riled up.
Just when Taehyung felt the littlest bit more relieved, the devil bends forward until the skin of his lips ghost against his earshell,
"But you should definitely keep quiet if you don't want to stay locked in my grasp forever, pretty."
With that Taehyung crumbles, shuts his eyes tight and his hands ball up in fists next to his side. Somehow he felt himself surrendering completely, as if the other had total control over him and his actions, his entire being.
Almost as if he took away and was the new owner of his soul, yet it has never come in contact with his hands in the first place.
Not just yet.
A rather cold breeze behind him makes the angel shiver. He turns his head, exhaling a heavy breath he wasn't aware he was holding noticing the other disappeared almost as fast as he came.
It is right then and there something in Taehyung's gut gnaws at him from the inside out, telling him that this is only the beginning.
