Chapter five : "Her boyfriend"

Sawako's pov :

"My number?" I ask him. "Yes." He tries to look at me then looks away while fiddling his fingers.

It's my first time seeing him act so cute.

I'm glad he asked because I was starting to think he wasn't interested in me, that would've hurt because I am interested in him.

As I'm about to answer I hear someone.

"Sawako?"

I look around to see who said that.

"Kazehaya?" I answer.

He walks up to me completely ignoring Minoru who was right beside me.

He stands by my side. "Who is he?" He asks.

I'm not sure what to answer. I don't even know myself what the answer to that question is. Friend, crush, maybe?

"Oh...I'm just going to leave." Minoru says. I worded my lips to try and stop him from leaving without my number.

But Kazehaya interrupted me.

"I don't understand. Why are you here?" He looks a bit sad.

"I'm so sorry. I'm stupid. I'd do anything to get you back. I don't know what I was doing when I ended things." He says.

I'm so confused. This is all so sudden.

Without saying anything I leave him standing there. I don't have time to answer him.

"Minoru, wait!"

He stops in his tracks and turns around. "Uh, yeah?" I stand in front of him.

"You didn't get my number." I tell him. He shrugs and looks away. "It kind of looks like you have a boyfriend." He says.

I shake my head in negation.

"He's my former boyfriend. I'm not sure why he's here, especially at this moment."

He looks at me hesitantly. "Are you...lying?" He asks me. It's a weird question but reasonable. Judging by the situation I could have easily lied.

But I am not a liar.

"No. I'm not." I respond. He nods.

"Alright, can you list it for me slowly? I'm not that good with numbers!" He chuckles and smiles.

This is the first time I've seen him smile like this and it was beautiful.

I tell him, number by number and he enters it in his phone.

He waves goodbye and starts to leave. He leaves me by myself on the sidewalk. Just behind me is Kazehaya who cought up to me once again.

"Sawako, do you understand? I don't want to leave behind two years of us! I still love you! And who was he? Is he your new boyfriend?"

Kazehaya just went on talking and talking and I couldn't handle all that dialogue. I was pretty tired from today.

"Please. Stop." I say and I start to walk away. He has a lot of nerve to bump into me and start talking about our love.

I've never see him like this, it hurts.

"Wait! Who is he?"

Suddenly I feel him grab my arm and push me towards him. "Kazehaya, why are you doing this?" I ask.

"I just want you to listen to me!"
"Let me go." I say dryly.

Suddenly I hear a voice.

"Let her go."

I turn around. Minuro? He's back?

"Who are you?" Kazehaya asks.

"Her boyfriend."

Minuro then proceeds to take my hand and hold it gently.

"You should go." He says sternly towards Kazehaya.

Kazehaya walks away without saying a word angrily. Once he wasn't in sight Minuro let go of my hand.

"You came back."
He nodded.
"I figured it was stupid to leave you alone in the dark." He answers.

Tears stream down my cheeks. He hesitantly wipes them off.

"Thank you."
"No problem."

"Let me walk you home." He suggests.

I told him where I lived and we walked in silence for a while. I decided to break the lack of conversation between us.

"Why did you tell him you're my boyfriend?" I ask.
He lightly blushed. "Oh, I just thought that if I said that maybe he would leave you alone. Gomen."

I shook my head. "No! Thank you, really!" I say.

He kicks a rock away.

"You know, if he bothers you like that again, you can always call for my help! Since you have my number now." He says.

I smile at him. "Of course." I answer.

We walk silently not knowing what to say.

We arrive at my house and we end up at my doorstep.

"Goodnight." He tells me.

"Goodnight!" I say.

I walk in and from the window I see him start to leave.

My heart swoons just seeing him in his steps.

Though looking back on what happened I'm a bit worried. I remember Kazehaya saying he would go to the same college I'm going to now.

If I see him and he acts this way it might be trouble.
