Cassandra Jean Thompson was a quiet girl that never really fit in anywhere. When she was younger, she was far from popular in school, even her sister picked on her a little bit too much for her liking. Cassandra was the youngest of three children, Jack, the oldest brother and Poppy, the middle, and favorite, child. Her mother was never real a part of her life, she was rather absent both mentally and emotionally.
But that was only around Cassandra. Around Jack and Poppy, she was the most animated woman you'd ever met, she'd smother them with gifts, money, whatever they needed, they got. Cassandra never had that. She was, quite frankly, the unwanted and forgotten child in her mother's eyes.
As for her father, he was much more present and treated the three of them equally, showering them with gifts, money, pretty much anything they wanted or needed. It was fairly obvious that Cassandra was a daddy's girl, she never spoke to her mother unless absolutely necessary. Jack was the only one who did everything he could for her. Jack and Poppy didn't much get on because, although Jack would never admit it, he didn't like how Poppy treated his youngest sister.
Cassandra moved out at the earliest opportunity and moved down to Jacksonville, Florida, a whole 31 hours away from Denver, Colorado, where her family resided. From 23 to 29, she worked as a wedding dress designer and fitter in a local dress store but she never felt quite right there, she always felt like something was missing.
At 30 she quit her job and worked at a 911 call centre for 4 years but still, it felt like something was missing. So, she was a single, jobless 35 year old in Jacksonville, Florida with absolutely no idea what to do, picking up random little jobs in local stores to pay the bills.
In 2007, just before she quit her job, she decided to take a massive step and adopt a baby. She adopted a baby girl that didn't have a name yet, so she chose Daniella as it just fit perfectly. Daniella was born on July 24th 2007 and was two months old when Cassandra adopted her. She instantly fell in love with Daniella and would do anything for that little girl.
It was only on one fateful day in August of 2008 that she was walking home from her shift at the local bakery when she saw an apartment building with smoke billowing out the windows. She had acted on instinct, yelling at a random passerby to call 911 before running head-first into the building, pulling the fire alarm that wasn't going off and rushing up the stairs, banging on doors and ushering people outside.
When she got to the fifth floor, flames were engulfing the hallway but that didn't stop her from plowing through the soke and flames upon hearing the cries of a family in one of the rooms. She bashed a door open, wincing at the stinging pain in her shoulder as she rushed into the room, yelling for the victims and following the sound of the voice.
She made her way into a bathroom, seeing a small child, no older than seven, on the floor, crying and coughing violently. She quickly draped her jacket over the boy before picking him up and forcing herself through the hallway, ignoring the feeling of her skin melting off her arm and the stench of burning hair.
She made her way outside just as fire and rescue showed up and a woman came forward, thanking Cassandra vigorously for saving her son before they were both whisked away by paramedics. And as Cassandra watched the firefighters pull more people out and the paramedics work, she knew that was where she belonged. Being inside a burning building and pulling people out felt right to her.
By January 2010, she was a probationary firefighter in Jacksonville and 2 years after that, her brother Jack moved down there with her with his daughter, Sadie. Unfortunately, on the 19th of October 2019, Jack and Sadie were killed by a drunk driver and Cassandra's unit had been the one to respond to the call. Cassandra was unfortunately the one to hold her 14 year old niece as she died, Jack having died on impact.
She decided then and there that she had to leave Jacksonville, especially as her home was now too painfully to look at without her brother and niece there. She considered, if only for a second, moving back to Colorado before she almost instantly vetoed that and thought of other places to go. The one thing she loved about Jacksonville was the water so she knew she had to go somewhere on the coast.
And she decided on California. More specifically, LA. She had no idea why she chose the City of Angels of all places, or even California for that matter, but something was drawing her there and she wanted to know what. So she moved.
By February of 2020, a month before her 48th birthday, she had gotten settled in LA and was about to start her new job as a firefighter at Station 118. She had yet to meet the crew there and she hadn't worked since the accident 5 months ago but she was ready and currently on her way to work to meet her Captain and get settled in for her first day.
A/N:
Hey guys! This is a new 911 story that I'm very excited to start. I will admit, I'm only starting this story because I wanted time to think about plot lines for my other 911 story called Up In Flames but after writing this, I kinda fell in love.
This will be a Bobby X Reader fic. It will take place after Season 3, after the tsunami has already happened and after the whole Buck suing the 118 fiasco. This won't follow the storyline whatsoever, there likely won't be any of the actual plotlines from the show in this story as it's a fanfic and not a rewrite and I'm just gonna see where this goes. Cassandra was born in 1972 so is 48 when the story starts.
Also, I know this part is in third person but the rest of the story will be in first person and if it changes at any point, I will tell you beforehand.
Let me know what you guys think of this! Vote, comment, whatever you guys want to do or think it deserves! The other parts should be longer than this so yeah, that's all!
Have a good day!
