Chapter 15

"Alpha, may I sit?" Mike asks as we enter the dining room. Liam thinks hard and I just roll my eyes. It was annoying me how embarrassing he was acting. Have some consideration for the person who saved your mates life.

"You may sit, Mike and Gloria. Ignore Liam, he's just being rude." I smile. "Just make yourselves at home and I'll go make some coffee." They nod and I see Liam's jaw clench out of the corner of my eye. I try so hard not to scold him for being rude.

I walk to the kitchen and start making coffee. I try and go as fast as I can, because if Liam says anything, I want to be there to hear it. Once I'm done, I take two, set them in front of Mike and Gloria. Then I go back and get the other two. Handing it to Liam, he places the cup on the table and takes my hand in his, kissing it on the knuckles. I blush and take my hand away. He could be so sweet towards me, yet so bitter towards others. It really did infuriate me.

"I wanted to talk about how grateful I am for what you did for me Mike." I said as I took a seat. I sort of jumped when Liam placed a hand on my thigh. He started rubbing, much to my dismay. I glanced at him through the corner of my eyes.

"It really was nothing. I just knew what you were going through and I knew that a girl like you would not bring our pack down. If you did look like someone that might have, then this probably would have ended with your death." Mike had his arm around Gloria, and he was rubbing circles into her shoulder. She seemed relaxed and her eyes were filled with sympathy.

Liam growls a bit at Mike's statement. Not liking the 'death' part. He already felt bad enough, Mike was making him feel worse.

"Alpha! I'm so sorry! I was just saying-" Suddenly Liam had his hand around Mike's throat. It all happened so quickly, I was shocked. I couldn't move. Mike was struggling. He didn't fight too much; afraid that Liam would kill him if he fought back.

"I know I wasn't there for her but here you are rubbing it in my face! I'm sorry Amber. I really am. But if you died, I would have eventually killed myself." Liam started to whimper.

Seeing my mate cry made me cry. I don't really know why, but it just did. Liam must have felt it because he turned his head and dropped Mike. Gloria ran to Mike and started to calm him down and help get his breath back. I felt bad but I couldn't go to him, I was glued on the spot.

Liam approached me, tears welling in his eyes. We were crying together, and Liam was slowly getting closer. I cupped his cheeks, I hated him feeling like this. I needed to see his smile. To see him okay.

"Baby, I'm so sorry. I should have been there! I should have protected you. But no, I wasn't. I'm pathetic, that's why." Liam stopped crying. But I couldn't. "Please stop crying Amber. Seeing you cry breaks my heart."

He wiped the tears away from my cheeks and placed a soft kiss on my nose.

"Get out." Liam said to Mike and Gloria, who were still on the ground. I shook my head at them. But, they followed their alphas orders and got up slowly. I could see Gloria's struggle trying to lift Mike up, so I forced myself out Liam's arms and to Gloria's side.

"Thanks Luna." Gloria said, smiling at me. We helped Mike up and surprisingly, Liam just left the room. I felt hurt that he just left, but then again I understood. He was probably fed up with Mike.

We helped Mike to the door, and I let go of him. They turned to face me and I lightly hugged them both. I felt terrible at what happened. Mike had sacrificed so much to aid me during the abuse. The least I could do is treat him with respect, but no, my mate had failed to do so.

"I'm sorry about Liam. He just, he's so upset about not being able to help me. I can't imagine how he feels. Let alone how you felt Gloria. I'm so sorry. Maybe I shouldn't have brought you here." I sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose. I was embarrassed.
