I haven't talked to him for about ten days now. Blue still followed and escorted me everywhere, even to the beach. He just sat beside me while I was reading. He was waiting for me during my gynecologist appointment and made a joke that made me spit my water all over his car. "Why would you do that, while I drink?" He shrugs and turns right. "Where are we going? This isn't the way home." "I know I have to pick something up for Kody. He won't be home before noon tomorrow and he has to attend a charity event tomorrow evening, and he needs it," he explains. "He was gone?" I ask and feel a knot building in my chest. "Hmm, Europe to help his dad with something. I'll be back in a second. "
Why didn't he say goodbye? At least a text? Sure I was mad at him, but he could have said something.
The door opens, and Blue starts the engine.
"Everything alright?" "No. I mean yeah, but no. Why didn't he say at least goodbye?" "Because you said you don't want to be with him. You want to be alone. He did as asked." I pinch the bridge of my nose. Once we reach my apartment I unlock the door and Blue follows with a big garment bag. "What are you having for dinner?" "Nothing, I'm not hungry," my tummy is full of disappointment. "Okay then, I'll be over there, call me if you need anything, good night." "Mhmm, bye." I don't even look at him, I stare at my phone and try to defend the urge to text him to call him, what if anything happened? We would never see each other ever again and the last thing I'd say to him was that I didn't want to be him. "Uuurghhhh," I throw my phone on the couch and lie down. I must have fallen asleep because the sound I wake up to is my alarm. I sit up, look for my phone, and turn it off. I sit there for a bit, head empty and eyes closed. Once I got my shit together I get up, stretch and as I walk to the bathroom I see the big garment bag, Blue must have forgotten it.
I text him.
Cleo You forgot Kody's suit.
I shower, brush my teeth, and get dressed. While I make my coffee and toast Blue texts back.
Blue It's not a suit. Cleo Whatever it is you forgot it here, I'll bring it with me. Blue This is for you. You're gonna wear it tonight.
Cleo Oh, wanna bet?
I put the coffee into my cup, grab my keys and bag, and walk downstairs. Blue is already standing there, like the guardian dog he is. I get into the car and before I can say anything Kody calls.
"Boss?" "Steve, one more time and I'm gonna force you to eat the food you hate the most." Blue laughs. "I wanted to talk to Cleo." The way he says my name makes me shiver. I'm not used to him calling me by my name. "You're gonna be my date for tonight. The dress is already in your apartment. I'll be waiting downstairs around 6.30 pm. Are you crossing your arms and looking at the display like a five-year-old whose parents told her she can't get any more chocolate?" I open my mouth to protest, but Blue is faster: "Yeah, she looks exactly like that." "No, I don't!" "See you later," he hangs up.
