Once out of the clearing, the survivors were met with a desolate road. That was strange since they could hear almost nothing but white noise. Jaren and Charli thought that there would be a waterfall nearby. And yet, there was almost nothing in sight. Granted, what the survivors could see was limited due to the thick fog. The fog was thick enough to hinder their ability to see any more than five feet in front of them.
"That's weird," Jaren commented. "I know something is making that god forsaken noise. I just don't know what it is or where it's coming from."
Becker pulled a flashlight out of their backpack and turned it on. "One way to find out," It said, following the road. Becker made sure to shine the light of their flashlight in every direction they could think of. That was so that the survivors didn't miss anything important.
The other five survivors followed behind Becker, muttering to each other about the flashlight. The five were asking each other if flashlights were that important. That, in itself, confirmed to Becker that the others didn't have flashlights on them. This was going to be a problem as it was going to make it harder to find what was producing the white noise. While looking around, the light from Becker's flashlight landed on a metal pole a half mile up the road. Attached to the pole were wires connected to a speaker near the top of the pole.
Becker squinted at the speaker. Their eyes focused on a small, red, flashing light. This was peculiar as the survivors weren't anywhere near any military outposts. Or, at least not that Becker knew of. Becker stepped forward a few steps and shined their light down the road. The light landed on a chain link fence. There were various signs on the fence either telling people not to enter without authorized personnel; or to not touch the fence since it was a high voltage fence. From where the group was at, Becker couldn't see a gate.
"This way," Becker commanded, leading the group around the fence. Becker suspected that the speaker was the source of the noise. Becker also suspected that the people on the other side of the fence were the reason the noise was playing. However, based on the signs on the fence, Becker wasn't planning on breaking in. It didn't matter if there was an outbreak going on.
While the survivors were walking by, a large chain link gate opened to their left. The survivors looked to their left in response. The survivors could see a group of military personnel on the other side of the gate. Their guns were drawn but they weren't pointing them at anyone in particular. The military personnel lowered their weapons after seeing that the survivors kept their weapons down. On top of that, the military personnel could see that the survivors weren't infected. Well, all but one. Though, they made the assumption that Becker wasn't infected since the other five weren't infected.
"Follow us," One of the men said. His voice was deep and quiet.
The survivors stepped through the gate cautiously. Once in, the gate closed behind them. Looking around, the survivors were suspicious of their surroundings. Becker and Charli had the feeling that they walked into a trap. Jaren had to hold back the urge to make a joke since they knew how serious the military was.
Once the group of military personnel established the survivors' names, one of them asked, "Which one of you is the leader of the group?"
"Well, since I'm the-" Ayden was interrupted by Becker's arm crashing into his chest.
"That would be me," Becker stated, keeping their voice calm yet stern.
The military personnel continued to lead the survivors through the military outpost. They walked past several groups of trainees. Past one of the groups of trainees was a medical tent. Inside the medical tent was a group of ten people. Half the group looked injured while the other half looked sick. Were they sick with what Becker knew as the green flu, or was the illness unrelated? Becker didn't want to question it for a few reasons. The first being that the other five knew the virus as the green death virus. The second being that Becker didn't want the military to think it knew too much. And the third being that Becker had the feeling that whatever was going on in that tent wasn't any of their business.
