Kandace approached Jaren and asked, "Hey, you doing okay?"

Jaren took a deep breath and said, "Yeah, I'll be fine." Jaren couldn't hold eye contact with Kandace for very long.

"Stay strong Jaren. I'm sure your dad would understand," Ayden said, rubbing Jaren's left shoulder.

"Don't listen to him. If I were your dad, I would've shot you in the head for merely pointing your gun at the trainees," Vere said, disregarding Jaren's situation. Vere knew full well that xe was invalidating Jaren's feelings. And yet, Vere still didn't care.

Charli shoved Vere to the ground and shouted, "If I hear one more word come out of your mouth I'm going to make sure you can't walk straight for a week!" It was amazing that Charli was able to shove Vere to the ground. Charli was smaller and thinner compared to Vere. Charli stood at 5'6 compared to Vere who was 6'1.

The survivors continued down the road. Vere was lagging behind as xe had to get up off the ground. It may not have been the best idea to follow the sound of the crying witch, but Becker had a feeling that it was a good thing. But, it's a witch, how is her crying a good thing? Becker had the feeling that the witch was an indicator that the group was going in the right direction. Becker didn't know how to explain it other than it being a hunch they had.

The survivors weren't entirely sure how they were going to keep proceeding. For one thing, Ayden didn't want to keep walking due to missing half a leg. For another thing, the survivors were getting sick and tired of always walking. Yes, at one point they were able to bypass that by having some kind of vehicle to drive. However, that didn't mean they'd always have something like that to help them. Even with the abandoned cars the survivors passed, Becker didn't want to risk setting off an alarm. Becker knew the risks of setting off the car alarms. And there was no way in hell they were going to let the others learn the hard way.

The closer the survivors got to the crying, the weirder it sounded. It was louder and more distorted. It sounded as if the survivors were approaching two witches instead of the one. The survivors rounded a corner and spotted something unusual. What they saw was a witch and something similar to the witch. Taking a closer look, Becker was able to confirm that the other 'witch' was a spector. The biggest difference was that the spector wasn't actually crying. Her shallow breathing had distorted the cries of the witch.

Becker instructed the others to keep their voices low. Becker took a look around to see if there was a way around the witch and spector. Becker noticed four barrels on the other side of the street. What was the most interesting to Becker was that the contents of the barrels were still on fire. It was possible that the people that set those firs left not that long before the survivors got there. Since the barrels were eight to ten feet apart, Becker made the assumption that the fires were made by four different people from four different groups.

Scanning further to the left, Becker saw something interesting. There was a way around to the other side of the block. Becker motioned for the others to follow it to the other side of the block. The survivors had to make sure their footsteps were quiet. They thought they outsmarted the witch and spector. However, once the survivors turned the corner, they realized they ran into a dead end. It looked as if the people that lived on that street tried stopping the infection from spreading. This upset Becker as it meant that they had to go back the way they came. Why not go around the dead end? There was no way to as that was the whole point of a dead end. Especially so since the wall was too hazardous to climb.

"Okay, before we go back the way we came, can we talk about what the hell that thing was," Vere asked. Vere made it clear that xe wasn't paying attention to Becker's parents' research journals. That was a mistake that Vere didn't care about making.
