Courtney was laying in her bed, preparing for her nightly 3-hour tiktok scroll, when she received a call.
Justin? Since when did he make calls this late? He was always one for his beauty sleep.
She knew it must have been serious,if he was willing to disturb his perfect eyes with blue light this late,so she picked up.
'Hey Court...I need to tell you something.' He muttered groggily.
He sounded tired, but also alert and on edge.
'Before I say this,I just want you to calm yourself. Don't anger yourself right before you sleep.' He insisted.
'Just tell me what's happening Justin.' Courtney yawned.
But instead of replying,he started screen sharing.
He scrolled through his messages until he picked out a certain group chat.
The title was We Hate C... They had obviously made it too long to be displayed on the main screen. Honestly, she thought to herself, maybe shorten it next time?
Justin opened it,and immediately clicked onto the title,so she could read it fully.
Her heart dropped. She read it aloud,to confirm that her eyes weren't deceiving her.
'We Hate Courtney'
'Do you want me to show you the people in it or..?' He scratched the back of his neck.
She nodded silently, barely letting a breath slip out from her frowning lips.
He scrolled down to reveal the members: Heather, the creator of it; Gwen; Duncan; Justin; Harold; Leshawna (Left because she couldn't stand what everyone was saying); Beth; and Eva.
It wasn't a lot,but to her it could have been the entire population of the world.
'I think she figured I would hate you after Princess Pride,so she added me.' He mumbled.
She cringed at the mention of it. She was young back then, and too naive to realise the boy she was trying to make jealous would eventually get bored of her,and move onto the next girl.
'Yeah..Sorry about what I did back then, my head was filled with lawyers and the hope of hitting the jackpot due to some stupid show.' She stuttered, wanting to clear the air after he had taken time out of his night to show her what was happening.
He smiled. Actually smiled, not the fake one you give to the paparazzi so they don't figure out you're secretly crumbling apart. She took this gesture as a sign he forgave her. Besides,it's not like she was the only crazy one that season.
He exited the title page and entered the real blow. The messages.
Heather: Hey guys! I know you're all anti-Courtney supporters,so I've gathered you all here to talk about how terrible of a person she is
Sierra: Is Cody in this group?
Heather: No
*Sierra has left the chat*
Gwen: Finally a group chat where people will relate to me
Duncan: As the person with the most experience with Courtney, I can confirm she is horrible
Eva: But you dated her?
Duncan: Only because she was hot back then
This message killed Courtney. The words back then rang in her ears. She couldn't take any more of it.
'Justin please don't show me the rest.' she sobbed quietly
'I won't, but I will send one last message before I leave the chat.' He smirked devilishly
He took a screenshot of him on facetime with Courtney and captioned it: Ooh y'all are in trouble. Yes I betrayed you. Can't wait to see you guys sobbing your pathetic hearts out tomorrow after she breaks you and evaporates all your self confidence.
This made Courtney smile. Justin may not have been her first choice for a friend a few hours ago,but now she saw him through a different perspective. She no longer viewed him as an entitled,self-obsessed freak. He was beautiful, kind, and understanding. Everything she could have ever possibly want a friend to be. Or a lover..
