We drove up to my aunt's house, which was only about an hour's drive from our house.

The four of us went over the game plan while Jaden was asleep. If this was gonna work, we needed them, out of everyone else, to believe us.

Once we got to the house, D got out of the car. I focused my hearing while Jorja and Dinah eyed his every move like a hawk.

"Hey, baby!" Aunt Tasia greeted. "Wasn't expecting to see you here. Everything alright?"

"Oh, D!" Jazmine said, her and her sisters comin' out the house. "Have you heard from Gabby?"

"Not directly," D said.

Ciara looked back at us, her eyebrows furrowing.

"Why's Mani still in the car?" she asked.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa..." Danielle said, her eyes hardening, "...ya'll got a wolf with you?"

"I can smell her from all the way over here," Ciara said.

"Look," D said, "my family's in danger. I need your help."

"What happened?"

"It's...hard to explain...but I need ya'll to be open-minded. Can you do that?"

"Of course," Aunt Tasia replied.

Hearing all I needed to hear, I turned to Jaden, his sweet face etched in worry.

"Alright, baby..." I said, "...it's time to meet some new people."

"Ma," he said, "what if they don't like me?"

"They'll love you, cub," Jorja reassured.

"They just haven't met anyone like you before," Dinah chimed in.

I smiled at them before doing the same to Jaden, his own smile appearing. After a moment, we all got out of the truck, Jorja holding Jaden's hand as Dinah went around back to join them, me in front of them. I saw my family's faces immediately drop once they saw him.

"Are ya'll out of your mind!?" Danielle practically screeched.

"The Volturi will come for all of us!" Ciara exclaimed.

"D..." Aunt Tasia said, her voice much more calm but dripped in warning, "...you and Mani best get that thing out of here..."

"He's not what he looks like, auntie," I tried to reason.

"And ya'll got the nerve to have a fuckin' werewolf sittin' cozy in the car with Dinah!" Danielle said.

"He has blood in his veins," D said, referring to our son. "You can feel his warmth."

"...I can feel it..." Ciara uttered, realization filling her.

"I'm his biological mother," I said. "D's his biological father."

"Bull shit," Danielle challenged.

"It's true," D said. "He was conceived while I was still human."

Aunt Tasia eyed me with subdued rage.

"You laid down with this man before you turned him?" she asked. "Mani, you could've killed this boy! And look what's become of it! You know this ain't how we do things..."
