Chemistry with Mr. Clayton has to be the most boring and God-awful thing in the entire world. I sit there thinking and daydreaming about what else I could do rather than sit here glued to a chair and a desk that looks like the other 30 desks and chairs next to me. For me, focusing on chemistry and what atoms are is like torturing myself. Yet I sit here every damn day doing it because my parents said so. "Ms. Isabella, would you mind answering question number 5?" Mr. Clayton says, pointing to the whiteboard.
"Um, actually, yes, I would mind. If I didn't raise my hand to answer the question, that probably meant I don't know the answer, right? and as a teacher, I think you should be able to know that since you tell us to raise our hands WHEN WE WANT TO ANSWER A QUESTION." I reply with sass. I didn't know I had in me. After that, a couple of people hoot, and then Mr. Clayton quiets them down and proceeds to ask, "o-oh-ok, perhaps you should be more respectful and calm down."
"I can't believe you just said that you should never tell someone to calm down when they are stating their opinion and are trying to speak facts." I say, getting frustrated.
"Ms. Isabella, I would advise you to be in control" Mr. Clayton says, getting angry.
"oh great, just great, I just told you to stop telling me to calm down, and now you tell me to get in control." I reply getting more angry.
I decided to storm off and out of the classroom.
"Mr. Collins, perhaps you would like to see what is going on?" Mr. Clayton advises Chris; my best friend, aka The one who doesn't tell me to calm down.
"Get your woman under control, man!' one of boys hoot from our class.
"she literally just said to stop telling her to be in control, man. Why don't you focus on atoms? And yes, of course, Mr. Clayton I'll go check in on her." Chris replies, coming to my defence. I knew I could always count on him.Chris does his usual thing, where he relaxes his shoulders closes his eyes, and steps toward me, ready to face my bullshit. He walks towards me and plops himself down beside me.
"Isa, what's wrong? What just happened in there?" he says, saying sweetly and genuinely concerned.
"I don't even know. Chris. I was so bad and disrespectful towards him. I hate it. Why am I like this?" I reply, not being able to stop myself from crying and just breaking down.
"hey-hey now don't cry, Isa. You did nothing that bad. It's not like you killed someone. Now stop crying. Please. I don't like to see you cry, princess." He tries to console me and pulls me into a hug, knowing I won't stop crying, so he just holds me there while I bawl my eyes out and say everything I possibly can to him. Getting angry , crying, smiling, all a mix of emotions. But as always, he never questions anything. He's just always there for me. His deep blue eyes search for answers he can find without asking questions while one of my hands remains locked around his waist while the other plays with his dark brown hair. And both of his hands jumbled in my hair and around my neck, holding me into place and keeping me from physically falling apart. After crying for about half an hour, I feel like there are no tears that can physically fall. So I stop crying and ask Chris, "just ask me it already." Knowing he wants to ask a question but won't until he knows I'm ready.
"Are you on your period?" he asks, somewhat innocent.
"Really that's what you ask a girl who's been crying for the past hour?"
"Well you just cried about so many important things and a freaking kangaroo dying in Australia, and you also got angry over why you're stuffed toy; Larry won't talk about how much your stomach hurts. So I'm guessing you're on your period."
"Well yes I am. Maybe that's where I got all that sass from in class?"
"Probably now come on let's get you home before you decide to burn down the entire school."
"ha-ha let's go, idiot"
This is exactly why I love him so much. His ability to be there for me and his ability to just hold me while I cry and make me laugh after crying so I don't feel like shit the entire day is something to marvel at.We head over to the carpark after signing the early leave pass and calling our parents for proof.
