"Something isn't right. But I cannot figure out what is..."

No POV.

A loud gasp echoed through all four walls of the room. Evelyn immediately shot up from her slumber, clutching her chest. A bead of sweat formed in her forehead, as she took deep breaths.

"Finally..." She breathed out. She finally managed to wake up from her dream, or as she would call it, her worst nightmare ever. A sigh of relief left her lips, her eyes roaming around her room. The familiar lavender walls made her feel less anxious, knowing that she was out of her dream.

It was until she took a glance at her wrist. Evelyn's eyes went wide, a sudden pain enveloping her hand.

"What...?"

It didn't make sense. It was just a dream, why did she have the same scar on her wrist as the one on her dream? Her once calm heartbeat started to quicken again, feeling a mix of dread and confusion. A cut on her wrist, the same place where the creature from her nightmare. Fresh blood dripped, her dainty hands traced the wound, feeling pain in her wrist.

-----------------------------------------

The whole mansion was empty, everyone had left after the party ended. A foul smell of alcohol and other snacks mixed together lingered in the whole living room, which pretty much bothered the girl living there a lot.

It was close to midnight, when most people were locked away in the comfort of their homes, and only the night owls roaming the fluorescent streets of Whisperwind. But that doesn't mean the whole city was dead, no, it's the exact opposite. All the lights shone even brighter than the darkest times of the day, because that's how it's always been in Whisperwind.

The urban legend's story-tellers were getting ready to share more, not knowing that one of them actually might be true.

"Gosh! I cannot hear a single thing!" Violet spoke in frustration, running her hand through her hair to calm herself down. She was trying to watch a movie, staying up late even though she knew very well that she was insomniac. But what bothered her was the sound. It was little to none, and her tv was in the highest volume.

It was still unknown of the danger she just entangled herself in, as she was eating a bag of chips, trying to watch some movies her friends recommended.

Very annoyed by the situation, she went out of her room, not forgetting to cover her nose because the smell was bothering her a lot, she despised it altogether.

Violet poured herself a glass of water, drinking it as she planned on just leaving the movie because she just lost her headphones, meaning she needs to find something else to watch. Moreover, it was 2am, she should be asleep, going to bed would be the best option.

Violet was about to turn back when suddenly she noticed a glance of a shadowy figure fleeting away as soon as she spotted it.

Her actions suddenly halted, as the figure she saw piqued her interest. Finishing her glass of water, Violet took steps forward, as her mind was filled with curiosity, but she wasn't afraid, just trying to find out what was happening. Somehow, she wasn't afraid of these things, in fact, she was thrilled. A very odd person, and she knows she is. Plus, it's not like she believed ghosts are a thing, and if a person broke in, she'd be able to defend herself because of her fighting skills she picked up when she was younger.

The shadow she saw earlier was now gone, and Violet kept turning around, trying to find where it went.

"I swear if this is another–"

Her sentence was cut short when a sudden force made her lose balance and fall. A somewhat familiar laugh echoed through the four corners of the place. Her body fell to the ground, as she hit her head on the corner of the small coffee table.

Groaning in pain, Violet got up quickly. Because this wasn't normal. She could've sworn someone pushed her from up front, but she couldn't see anyone.

Getting back up on her feet, the girl suddenly went towards the light switches, turning them all on as fast as she could. That seemed like the best option.

Suddenly, another force pushed her from behind, making her stumble in front of the wall. Luckily, she braced herself properly so she wasn't harmed. "Who are you?" She asked, even though she knew there would be no answer.

The pace of her heartbeat started to quicken, feeling a sense of dread and confusion.

'Turn off the lights...' A shrill voice spoke, as the atmosphere around her suddenly changed to chilly. Violet crossed her arms, snuggling them closer as her eyes darted towards all corners of the room.

With no other warning, the power in the house suddenly was cut off. A cold wind blew through the open window, as Violet suddenly covered her mouth in bewilderment.

Shadows.

An army of shadows suddenly came creeping up as soon as she blinked. All of them with their glowing eyes, a contrast to the shadow figures which made hairs stand on the back of her neck.

Violet's hand flipped the light switch on and off repeatedly, trying to turn on the light as her mind suddenly couldn't comprehend how this was possible. But that was the least of her worries, right now, she needed to get out of this situation.

A whimper left her lips when she suddenly felt a hand over her mouth, suffocating her. She tried to break free, when suddenly a loud thud echoed as she fell to the floor.

"Violet? Why are you up so late?"

Violet's eyes went wide the minute she opened them. She was back in her bedroom, laying on the ground the exact way she fell down before. Her mother was looking at her with an eyebrow raised as Violet awkwardly got up, totally puzzled by this situation.

"Was it a dream?" She muttered.

"Go back to sleep now, or else your health will get worse." Her mother said, before going back to her own room.

Violet laid back on her bed, running a hand through her hair as she pondered what just happened.

"This felt too real to be a dream..." She whispered to herself.

Something wasn't right, and that definitely was not a dream.
