"Dim hall, a fleeting chill. Don't blink, or she'll have her fill."
No POV.
The smell of coffee surrounded the four corners of the compact room. The dim light was a bother, but Lucy had to work with what she had. Even if it was very little, she was still afraid of complete darkness, that is, if she's alone.
The girl was lucky she had charged her flashlight in time, or else she'd be surrounded by darkness. The power in her neighbourhood had been cut off for a few hours to repair it.
Lucy scrolled through her phone, sipping her coffee just to keep herself from falling asleep.
The small, confined apartment was silent, with no lights or appliances turned on. Lucy was a student on scholarship, which means she paid the bills. And this small rental apartment was what suited her situation the best.
The eerie silence bothered her very much, so she turned the volume up, binge watching funny videos on her phone to keep herself from being scared of the dark.
The whole neighbourhood was a calm place, not a lot of bustle was there. Lucy opened the curtain to her room, letting the minimal light into her room as she waited for the power to come back.
The girl stared out the window, admiring the small pots of flowers on her neighbour's flowers. Her eyes roamed around the street, looking here and there.
She stayed like that for a few minutes, putting on headphones and listening to music, gazing out at the stars that started to become visible.
But a strange sight caught her eye.
A person, more specifically a woman, stood out on the street. There wasn't anything abnormal about her, but she had been standing there for the past few minutes, doing nothing. Her body stood still. It looked like she was about to cross the road, but she didn't. Her body stood there, facing the front. Lucy could only see her back, and her long black hair swayed freely in the brisk wind.
Even though Lucy had been taught to never keep staring at a stranger, she couldn't help but to keep her eyes open, watching the woman with open eyes, curious.
The window glasses were tinted, so even if she was inside, no one could see her. Lucy kept staring at the woman, intrigued by her still presence. It just seemed...uncanny. She was standing there, completely still, who wouldn't be curious about it?
The power suddenly came back, as the lights turned on.
"Ah finally!" She sighed in relief, running her hand through her hair. The lights turned on again, as she felt at peace.
Forgetting about the woman outside, Lucy hurried to the kitchen to make dinner. It was already night time so quickly. Her dinners weren't so special, but they kept her from starvation. It was mostly convenience store bought foods, which were easy to make. Other than that, not an ounce of her knew how to cook.
The girl was going about her day, eating her dinner peacefully as she planned on going to study after that. Her tests were getting more and more hard, and she had to study a lot because of her challenging subjects.
A sudden beep made her look up at her phone. An unknown id sent her a text.
"Don't blink." That's what it said. Lucy scrunched her eyebrows in confusion, dismissing the baseless text. It wasn't the first time something like this happened to her.
"People need to get a life instead of doing this." She muttered to herself, taking the last bite of her salad. She was about to wash the dishes, when the power went out again.
