The Bug Battles of Route 2

Last time our heroes were on their way out of Viridian City, but they were stopped when they found an elderly man passed out on the street in front of his home. Eliza, the man's granddaughter helped them carry the man back inside, making Kiara and Chase a new friend before the pair went on their way. Now the pair finally make their way onwards to Route 2 as the journey continues!

Kiara groaned as she hiked up the hill in the direction of the passage into Viridian Forest, it was such a pain, but she knew that once she made it she would be well on her way to taking on the first gym leader on her planned patching across the region. From what she heard, he was a rock type leader and currently the only member of her team that she felt would be a true contender in this fight was Pudding with her double kick.

She'd had the pinked tuffed Buneary longer than any other Pokémon, ever since she was a child as a matter of fact. The adorable companion that now rode on her shoulder had been a gift from a relative that lived in the Sinnoh Region when they had come for a visit. Pudding along with various books and statues pertaining to old legends were what they had brought to the fairy tale loving girl.

She, in spite of no longer being invested in kid's stories, had definitely taken up the desire for diving deep into legends and histories. That last fight where they had been steamrolled... that was going to be the last time they would lose. They'd made their promise to each other when they were little after all, that they'd either reach the peak of the mountain together or not at all. There was no point otherwise, after all.

So, she spoke up, Kiara's voice sure and confident as gold "Pudding, we're going to get payback on that Nova girl and stomp her stupid pinsir into the dirt like the bug he is. Just you wait, okay?" The blonde smiled brightly at the thought of crushing the emo jerk's spirit

The pink fuzzed bunny Pokémon gave an equally devious smirk and nodded along with her, seemingly pleased with the idea being offered to her "Bun bun bun!"

Meanwhile, while the trainer and normal type pokemon locked in, their traveling companion would groan in annoyance "Come on guys-" Chase started while his Smoochum rode on his shoulder "Can't you just let it go? People lose all of the time..."

Again, that earned him a death glare from the duo who were horribly displeased at the mere concept of letting this fly. Kiara barked at him "Are you serious? No matter how many times you say that, it isn't happening! We're doing it and if you don't like it, take a hike dude."

Chase glared at Kiara in then this time before arguing back "Maybe I should, I mean you ditch me at every turn. I'd probably be better off walking with that drunk guy from back in town." He shoved past and started walking ahead of them, this time leaving them behind

"Well who needs ya! We're better on our own anyway, right Pudding?" She looked at the friend riding her shoulder and found that she seemed a little disappointed at Chase's sudden departure "You too, huh?" Kiara lifted an eyebrow and sighed while she started walking

"Well, there's nothing to be done about it now. If we see him in Pewter later, we can say something. But for now, we can just keep going." However, as soon as they stepped over the first of the duo of steep hills a trio of bug children appeared, all of them dressed in various t-shirts, tank tops, shorts and flat brimmed hats

The fat one in the middle "Hey, you! We heard you talking about beating up a poor pinsir earlier, you must be some Team Rocket creep huh!" Aaaaaand these children were belligerent... great

While rubbing the bridge of her nose, Kiara just started walking past the children only to have them all scramble into her path to block her way yet again. "Where do you think you're going!" Shouted the short blonde girl in the overall

Then the taller lanky boy in glasses nodded and added in "Y-yeah what she said, w-we'll stop you you.... Villain!" A wormy little thing this one was...

Then Kiara just looked down at them and pointed to the side "Kick bricks you brats. I don't wanna deal with you. So get lost before I beat you like your parents clearly haven't." Then when she tried going past again they raised their pokeballs

"No shot you witch!" The fat kid held his ground as he spouted "I challenge you to a Pokémon battle! I'll stop you here and now!" Then the other kids cheered him on while Kiara just stared with a blank face

"Fine... whatever lets me get rid of you punks sooner." Then as the fat child ran across the grass to put distance between them with his friends standing to the side Kiara would nod Pudding forward "Pudding, you can deal with this. We've gotta save King's energy for the forest." She sat a hand on her hip and let her other sway by her side

The Buneary leaped down onto the ground and got into position while the fat kid called over "Don't get too cocky! I bet that King guy is the Team Rocket boss! You're higher up the food chain than I thought-" he balled a fist in concern

Then Kiara got an idea to maybe get out of here sooner than later "Well... ya got me kid! I'm the top captain of Team Rocket! So just you wait. I'm gonna beat you to a pulp for getting in my way!"

However, instead of scaring him like she had hoped, it instead led to his friends rushing to his side to help him with the blonde girl shouting out "You were right Ronnie!" And the stick figure boy nodding in turn "Yeah, she's evil! Let's get her!"

And then the big kid, Ronnie pointed at her "Yeah! We can't let them get away! Let's do it guys!" Then the trio called out their pokemon

"Kakuna!"
"Caterpie!"
"Venomoth!"

"Is... is that all?" Kiara lifted an eyebrow before shrugging only for the girl to immediately call out

"String shot them Caterpie!" And the big boy to call "Harden, Kakuna!"

"Dodge fast!" Kiara ordered her friend with the sticky stringy silk shooting past Pudding "Now rush the Caterpie and use pound, they're the issue!" She leaned forward

The bunny Pokémon nodded and rushed ahead before leaping into the air with its fist balled up as it came down, the bug being unable to get out of the way as the hand made contact. "Follow up with double kick!" And as it went downward from the impact of the punch, Pudding immediately swapped over to kicking her opponent in the head once they had fallen

"Caterpie!" She held out a hand before the glasses boy called out "Stun spore now Venonat!" The small boy was getting heated now in his bid to save his friend's Pokémon

And while the Ronnie kid hardened again, Kiara snarled and commanded "Grab the caterpie, throw it into the spores and run!" Before watching her friend obey her command and send the little caterpillar be tossed like a sack of potatoes at venonat through its own cloud of paralysis with a thud when they made contact.

The caterpie was down now and the venonat was struggling to keep up as the kakuna kept being worthless for their fight as its final ally. "Now grab a stick, hit him with it so the poison fur doesn't touch you!" She ordered it while the boy tried calling out orders of his own a moment too late, a thick stick smacking against the bug type's forehead and sending it tumbling to the ground

Then only one bug was left... laying. Kiara looked at the Kakuna and sighed "Just... keep hitting it with a stick until it gets a concussion." She shrugged before starting to walk towards the rest station ahead that led into the forest and in less than half a minute Pudding was back on her shoulder. Evidently it had not taken long while the children scrambled to rush their Pokémon to the Pokemon center back in Viridian City, swearing their revenge or something like that.

"Well... that was a pain, but now we just have to cross the forest and we're in the clear. Let's go Pudding, I'm getting really tired really fast." The Pokemon nodded while the blonde walked into the station, ready to enter the sea of trees ahead as the journey continues.
