LUKE AND I PULLED INTO the parking lot of the restaurant we were supposed to meet the rest of his family at. the ten minute car ride consisted of listening and singing along to sza. luke found a parking spot and pulled into it, turning off his car and looking over at me.

"are you ready?" he asks, noticing i was playing with my fingers so he grabbed my hand in his and squeezed it.

"yeah," i reply hesitantly. "just a little nervous that's all." luke grabs my face with his empty hand, turning me to look at him.

"you've done this many times before," he starts, brushing my hair out of my face. "nothing's changed, my family still loves you." he reassured me, placing a kiss on my forehead.

our moment is interrupted by a knock on the window, making both luke and i jump in our seats. we see jack waving at us from the other side, with a toothy grin on his face. he signals for luke to roll the window down, which luke does.

"sorry to interrupt your moment but quinn and i are really hungry and mom and dad have been waiting at the table for at least twenty minutes." jack says, looking down at his wrist even though he's not wearing a watch.

luke rolls his eyes at his older brother. "sure we'll be in there in a second." he speaks in an annoyed tone. he didn't notice that jack had made his way over to my side of the car, opened my door, and grabbed my hand. "bro what the heck?" luke starts, taking his key out of the ignition.

"wouldn't be the first time i stole your girl!" jack yells back as we start walking towards the restaurant.

i shake my head and chuckle. "he's gonna be mad at you for that." i say to jack, who only smiles bigger. he wraps an arm around my shoulders and messes up my hair.

"trust me i know," he says, opening the door for me. "but i love to mess with him." we walk into the main area and i see the hughes family sitting around a table with drinks. there's 3 empty seats, which i assume are for jack, luke, and i. ellen notices me and gets up from her chair, pulling me in for a hug.

"i'm so glad luke agreed to come to dinner with us," she says, her voice muffled. "i wasn't kidding when i said i needed another girl around." she pulls away and i smile.

"thank you guys for inviting me." i reply, taking a seat next to jack, leaving an empty seat on the other side of me for luke to take.

"oh please, you're always welcome!" jim says picking up his can of beer and drinking it.

"where's luke?" quinn asks, looking around for his youngest brother.

"oh, i sort of stole halle away from him so he should probably be here in a couple seconds!" jack tells quinn proudly. quinn gives him a high five.

luke finally walks into the restaurant and finds our table giving his parents and brothers a hug before sitting down in his seat next to mine. his hand immediately makes its way to my thigh like a magnet. the table orders drinks and their food and we make small talk while we wait.

"so halle said she might be spending thanksgiving and christmas with us this year while her parents are down in brazil." ellen tells the table, but everyone already knew besides luke. he turns to look at me with a smile.

"really?" he asks. he had so much hope and admiration in his eyes. i nod my head and lace my fingers with his.

"you guys are cute and all but can we not do this at the dinner table." quinn says, rubbing his temples with his fingers. jack nods in agreement and ellen kicks both of her sons under the table.

"if you're jealous of your brother just say that." jim retorts and everyone laughs besides the older hughes boys. they just roll their eyes in response.

"speaking of, do you have any hot single friends?" jack asks, turning his attention towards me. ellen covers her face with her hands, visibly embarrassed.

"as of right now i don't," i laugh and ruffle his hair. "but if it changes i'll let you know jacky." he gives me a high five as our food arrives at the table.

for the rest of dinner we all sit and eat and talk about many different things and plans for the holidays. once everyone is finished we begin to say our goodbyes.

"thank you again for inviting me," i say to jim and ellen, giving them both hugs. "i missed seeing you guys."

"we loved having you here and we can't wait to spend the holidays with you," ellen replies squeezing my shoulder. "and thank you for keeping luke in line, you know how he can be." i laugh at ellen and turn to say goodbye to quinn and jack.

"remember to let me know if you meet any hot single girls." jack reminds me, pulling me into a hug. i giggle and pull away, shoving him lightly. quinn cuts in.

"ignore him he's desperate," quinn says, pulling me in for a hug. "i'll see you at thanksgiving, keep luke in check until then."

"i will don't worry." i reply. after saying goodbye luke and i made our way back to his car, he opened my door for me and i thanked him. when he got inside the car, he turned to me and grabbed my face, placing a kiss on my lips.

"what was that for?" i ask, caught off guard.

"for being the best girlfriend i could ever ask for."
