Malik POV
📍Malik's Crib
12:00pm

I finally get home after a long ass day. I've been at Saint's for the past month helping him heal, clearing up the last of the funeral proceedings and planning our next move. I already got Tyrone spying on a few along with a few moles in their Gang.

Javier agreed to lend us a few Santos' to go stake out at all of our distribution points and the Feds got cop cars at Roman and D—Dime's casas, so for now I got all eyes on them. Any move gets reported directly to me now, which I ain't gon front, is tiring. I can't imagine being Head, this shit is exhausting.

I complain about it to him any chance I get, Saint really got the backbone for all this cause I ain't never hear him complain about being Head. He always telling me he can come back to take over but ion want him too. He was really broken during the funeral, him coming back to all this is too soon.

I want him to focus on healing for now, plus I got Aries and Harlem with me so I'll hold on for a while. I slid down on the couch and turned on the TV to watch the late night news. I ain't get a chance to at Saint's , his crash outs been 20x worse than before. I almost got thrown out the 60th floor.

That's one of the many reasons why I ain't letting him come back as Head yet.

I flick through the channels and finally land on CBS. I read the headline on the tv and my heart quickened. It read: 'Gang war sparked between the Spades and new gang 63rds causes havoc throughout NYC'.

Niggas with purple bandans ran across the screen with flame bottles and guns shooting at our own along with anything in their path. The other half of the screen were a couple of our own fighting back. Guns were quickly being drawn as everyone got louder.

Police was in between the whole incident with shields tryna diffuse the situation. But it looks like nobody was calming down no time soon.

The screen switched to a news reporter:

' This is the worst gang war the NY state has ever seen in the last 50 years, said to be even worse than the year long war with the Santos Gang five years ago. We advise everybody to stay indoors. Do not go out or you risk being killed. These gangs are ruthless and heavily armed. Back to you in the studio.'

My phone buzzes under me and I see a text for Papi letting me know he'll be home late cause of overtime. He'll probably be home late into the night in the AMs. Ion know why he won't just retire and stay home, I got plenty of money for the both of us. But it's his passion so I ain't frontin.

I turn off the TV, tired of hearing the protestors. They sound more anti-black than anti-war to me. I get up stretching and walk over to our bedroom to get ready for bed. I'm too tired to wait up for my man. As I get changed, my mind trails back to Nia and Saint, it's still crazy to me how she no more. I really thought those two would last forever.

Flashback:

Malik POV

"I'm nervous ah shit man. What if she say no?" I roll my eyes at Saint thinking otherwise. They been together for so long, they soul-bound. I hand him the bouquet of roses and we head over to the front of the school gate for his promposal.

A couple of other people who agreed to help stood opposite to each other in a long ass line while Aries and Harlem handed them roses. A few moments later, they give me a thumbs up and I turn to play the music whilst Saint stands there waiting for her to come.

'My Girl' by the Temptations began playing on the loud speaker whilst I positioned myself in the line. Saint stood looking all nervous and shi, wiping his hands on his pants. I send him a quick lil nod to reassure him before turning to my phone to text Bri.
