Girl in the Gown

at the left, where the grass grows higher
children giggle and play
parents joke around the campfire
the scent of burgers sizzle against the grill

at the right, where the grass is burnt with shame
stands a little girl in a hospital gown
holding her eyes on the flame
but she watches from afar,
not trying to catch attention

one child notices her, stopping in his steps
his gaze meets hers
the girl in the gown puts her finger to her lips
making a soft hushing sound
as she is pulled away from the view

the boy tries to reach for her
but freezes.
the man that is pulling her in the shadows
puts a finger to his lips
making a soft hushing sound.
