"Listen, I want everyone on time tomorrow, especially you, okay?" Yukti's mom said sternly.

"Y-yeah, okay," Yukti replied, her voice trembling.

**Yukti's POV:**
I know why she is not behaving like she used to—because my uncle is here. But I'm not sure it will stay the same when we leave for my nani's house. I think everything will be fine.

**Next morning:**

I felt as if in my dreams, someone was calling me close, wanting me to never go away. He was constantly calling me, but someone had tied my hands with chains. I tried to free myself, but the more I struggled, the tighter the chains became.

Suddenly, my eyes opened with a jerk, my heart skipping a beat. My mother was in front of me, waking me up from my sleep. Looking at her, I felt as if there was no strength left in my body. But I tried to bring myself back to life and sat up. When I looked at the time, it was 2:45 in the night.

I was about to ask her, but before I could complete my sentence, she said, "Look, I have done all the packing for my kids, and if you want to eat something, then you can cook it yourself. I will not struggle for you, and now you will get up and do the housework. We have to leave quickly."

I didn't say anything and went to do my work. After 2 hours, it was time for us to leave, and Mamaji came to pick us up. He came by car, but I get nauseous in cars. Apart from that, the car didn't seem like a car from anywhere—the windows were broken, the car was old and dirty, it smelled, the seats were completely dirty and cracked, and the car made strange noises when the engine turned on.

I picked up the carry-on to help and be seated in the car. I was about to put on my headphones to distract myself when my mother grabbed my hand forcefully and said, "Stay within your limits, and don't you dare say anything about me to anyone."

I only nodded in agreement. As soon as we reached some distance, I started feeling strange and having trouble breathing. It was difficult for me to stop the car as I wasn't able to talk, but finally, I tried my best. When I came out of the car, which was more like a bullock cart, I started vomiting. We know brown girls are allergic to artificial things, but some are allergic to cars too.

I kept stopping the car like this all the way because of my nausea, but finally, we reached our destination.

I met my nani, but she was not talking to me as I had thought earlier. I felt hurt, but I let that go.

We stayed there for 5 days. But I lived the way my mother directed me. I lived completely within myself, didn't bother much to talk to anyone, and stayed as far from my mother as I could.

I felt alone there. Even my cousins had nothing to do with me. They were all having fun together and left me alone, but I was happy too that I didn't have to see my mother the whole party night. Nothing happened to me physically as my mother was not around me. In those 5 days, I enjoyed the party alone and worked like a maid in my nani's house—my bad luck.

I didn't even realize how those 5 days passed, and now it was our turn to leave.
