~ Y/N's POV ~

Having to go back to Sunnyvale was awkward, the reason my mom moved us out of Sunnyvale after the divorce was to avoid my dad's family — now look who I'll have to see.

I entered the bus where music was blasting from some kid's boombox. Simon had green face paint on for the Shadyside witches. I had my band uniform on and spotted Deena sitting alone with her shoebox full of her and Sam's stuff down next to her.

"This seat taken?" I asked with a smile.

Deena looked up, flashing a light simile back. "Nah."

She placed the box on her lap and I took the seat next to her. "You know you gotta talk to her, only way to heal... all of this."

"You sure you can't do it for me?" Deena asked me with pleading look.

"As much as I'd love to, you gotta do it yourself."

Then, the bus engine started running and we were leaving Shadyside. For me and Deena, the ride was quiet — she was anxious about Sam and I was just looking at all the 'old' Sunnyvale sights. You'd mistake this place for a monument in Washington DC and forget it was a neighborhood at all.

"This isn't how I wanted to be here tonight," my uncle began. I hadn't seen him in a while, but at least I didn't have to start a conversation or anything.  "I wanted to be here as a fan. Our Sunnyvale Devils and your Shadyside witches throwing down some good old American football. Instead I find myself here as a husband, a father, an uncle, a neighbor and yes, mayor of Sunnyvale."

Surprised he even mentioned uncle.

Being back here, I did receive from dirty looks from both Sunnyvalers and Shadyside. Kate took quick notice and the 'aunt Kate mode' ( as I like to call it ) turned on.

"What?" She snapped at a football player on the Shadyside team in low volume.

"And on behalf of all of the people in my town, I say all of Sunnyvale mourns with you."

"Yeah, really looks like they give a damn," Kate sighed. "The only Sunnyvalers who came were the ones that had too; football team and the cheerleaders."

"Our hearts are broken with grief," as my uncle went on with his speech, Deena left to go outside — I knew why since we both spotted Sam and her what must've been new boyfriend in the crowd.

Shortly after, Will finished his speech and a new guy came up to the podium: my dad. I felt awkward seeing him up there and we hadn't even talked yet.

"My family has been in Sunnyvale for generations and now my brother is mayor and I your sheriff," my dad began. "We've prospered here. And yet, I've seen you, our neighbors in Shadyside, suffer tragedy after tragedy. It's easy in times like this to drown in questions of why..."
