I wake up much earlier than I normally do today. For one, I'm too overwhelmed to sleep. I also want to take extra time to make myself appear more presentable. I don't know who else will be showing up to this meeting since Velvette only referred to the demons who were coming as her partners. However, I could assume that she may have meant the other Vees. Or, maybe, she meant demons who work in the fashion industry. I guess I won't know until I get there.
I change into one of my usual work outfits. As for my shoes, I wear my usual lace-up boots, though they are fairly worn out because of how often I wear them. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly in a financial position to buy new ones. I sigh, walking into my bathroom to retouch my hair and put on a little makeup. When I figure this is the best it'll get, I leave my apartment with my work bag over my shoulder.
The walk was uneventful but extremely nerve-wracking. I'm aware I must be overthinking, but I can't help it. The last thing I want to do is make myself seem like a fool in front of Velvette's colleagues. As I step in front of the building, I stop momentarily and glance down at my phone. It's 7:46. At least being late is one less thing to worry about. I hesitate before walking inside.
Once I reach Velvette's office, I knock on the door. A few moments later, the door opens, revealing Velvette. I notice her hair tied into two braids today, a style that suits her pretty well if I'm honest. If there's something about Velvette it's that she's always changing up her hairstyle.
She smiles brightly upon seeing me and takes me by the arm as if I were her best friend, pulling me inside her office. "There you are. I almost thought you'd slept in or something." She says with a laugh, closing the door behind her.
I take a quick peek around the room, letting out a small sigh seeing that it is otherwise empty. "Oh, no... I made sure to set a bunch of alarms to make sure I didn't."
She walks me over to the long desk and turns to me, placing her hands on my shoulders. "Aw, dear, you've got nothing to be worried about. All you have to do is sit and listen, m'kay? I know you're not a talker."
I nod at her words, feeling better until I process her last sentence. Was that supposed to be an insult? Cause it sure sounded like one. Before I can say a thing, she does.
"Oh- and the pics I took last night of your designs were stunning. Wish I could say the same for some of the models wearing them... but that's beside the point." With her hand still around mine, she sets me down on a chair in the corner of the room. "The fashion show to promote the collection will be a week from today. As long as those tailors get off their lazy asses and start working, the collection should be available to the public on that day as well."
I nod, processing all the words and information she's telling me. It seems she's not wasting any time in having this collection released. "Okay, that's great."
Velvette crosses her arms and grins. "Sure is." She takes out her phone and glances down at it, her playful mood changing within a split second. "It's five past 8. Where are those fucking idiots?"
As if on cue, the door opens loudly, and my head spins in that direction to see who it is. My eyes widen once I recognize the tall man at the door as Valentino, one of hell's infamous overlords. I must have been correct in assuming that this meeting would be with the Vees. I feel myself swallow hard as Valentino takes a seat at the table.
Velvette walks over to him and crosses her arms, a look of anger plastered on her face. "Is it so much to ask to have you come on time for once?"
Valentino leans back against his chair with a relaxed grin. "Relax, babe, I'm here now, aren't I? It was a long night at the studio, you know... I can tell you all about it."
