Chapter 10
Better off

PRESENT DAY

Jumping out of his dream, Satoru's chest rose and fell quickly with each breath. The oxygen in the room felt thin and though he tried to breathe in deeper it still felt like he was barely sucking in any air.

Subconsciously, his hand raised and fell beside him expecting it to come into contact with someone only for it to drop down and press into the soft mattress.

Brows furrowing he looked to his hand in confusion, the slight daze he was in from his dream wearing off immediately as he looked down at the empty side of the bed. The untouched pillow, unwrinkled sheets, cold

Sighing through his nose Satoru laid back down, reaching over to his nightside table he grabbed his phone. Not so much to check the time even though he certainly needed to get up and ready himself for work, but to see if she responded to his text.

Nothing.

Then it dawned upon him, why was he here trying to get a message out of her when at the snap of his fingers he could be standing in her childhood home. Turning over onto his stomach his hands slide under neath his pillow, shielding his phone that had texts from everyone but the one person he wanted to hear from.

Satoru knew he had the ability to teleport into her arms this exact second, and he wanted to, but he knew that Y/n knew this too. Yet she still left. She knew that she could travel to the ends of the earth, but there was no cave, no wasteland, not even another planet where she could run to and he wouldn't find her with ease.

The fact that she still left was a slap to Satoru's face, it emphasized in bold letters that she needed space from him.

Isn't this what he wanted?

From the day they tied the knot at the alter and she took his last name, she'd taken on part of the burden Satoru suffered with alone. The loneliness of standing alone as the strongest, never feeling understood and only looked upon as a deity.

Y/n never had the same potential as Suguru.

Y/n never held power that had the potential to bring about chaos with the snap of her fingers, as Suguru did.

But with every unfiltered conversation, every smile she gave him, every kiss, every time her e/c eyes stared right through his cursed ones he felt the hollowness inside him become more and more filled.

The honoured one, throughout heaven and earth, felt grounded, humbled.

Purposeful, knowing there was someone who yes, acknowledged his powers but understood that wasn't where his character ended.

Satoru felt stupid.

He allowed himself to become too comfortable in her arms, knowing the dangers that would come with giving her his last name, letting her carry his offspring.

It was all his fault, wouldn't it be best for him to withdraw from her life before she had to endure any more pain because of him? Most would call him childish, maybe even selfish but he didn't care. He put a stain on her life by bringing her into his.

It was nice while it lasted.

"Where's Gojo-san?" Sitting on the ground with his legs crossed, Yuji sat himself in front of the tv as he searched through DVD cases to find another good movie. When he heard the light footsteps descending into the basement his head swivelled toward the sound excitedly anticipated someone other than his teacher.
