"Will she be alright doctor?" I heard a male voice ask. At first, I thought it was my dad, but this voice was different. Plus, no matter how fast my parents drove, they should still have another hour before they got here? Or maybe they really were already here... How long was I out?
My eyes fluttered open, and I saw the guy I've been crushing on since 1st grade... "Hey Lucas, what are you doing here?" I said trying to act cool. "What do you mean 'What are you doing here?'" he mocked, "I heard what happened and I came over. Rose and Susan are in the cafeteria right now, but they should be back soon." He said as he sat down beside me on the bed. When he asked what happened, I practically broke down in tears. He just listened to me with this sad expression on his face and told me it would be okay.
Even though I was out for 3 days, I was still really tired, so I could hardly keep my eyes open. I stayed awake long enough to see my parents walk in and then I basically passed out. I woke up again an hour later because I had to eat and heard what the doctor said: I was free to leave tomorrow morning. As I was dozing off again, I could hear Rose cussing out Sarah and Peter. Lucas was still beside me and turned his head when he heard my chuckle. "Go back to sleep goofball, this has nothing to do with you." He said with the cutest smile. "So, she's not cussing them out because..." I dozed off for a second then regained consciousness, "because they betrayed me?"
I didn't get to hear his response though because I had gone back to sleep. For whatever reason, it felt like I hadn't slept in days, no years! I was woken up because it was time for me to leave the hospital. I didn't really want to go back home to that back-stabbing roommate of mine, but I was glad to be outside again. You can only imagine my shock when we pulled up at Lucas and Rose's house. "I hope you don't mind," rose said looking kind if shyly, "but we thought you might want to stay here for a while." I chuckled as I grabbed her in a headlock. "What are you acting so shy for?" I said as she giggled, "We've known each other since 2nd grade.
Yep, that's right, I knew her older brother before I knew her. Of course, I prefer to spend my time with her simply because she's always taking care of me and making sure that I'm alright. I let go of her and we got out of Lucas' Ferrari. Oh, and in case it wasn't clear, their family is stinking rich. Me on the other hand, I'm just barely making it over here. They always offer to help, but I feel like that would be me using them.
I really felt like that after I had stayed with them for 3 months after I moved out of my parents' house. See, I'm only 17, I moved to California last year because I got a scholarship at one of the schools out here. However, I didn't realize that it didn't come with housing, so I asked if I could stay here for a little while. They obviously agreed and I stayed with them while I was trying to save money to get an apartment. That's when Sarah, who has been my friend since we were babies, moved out here and we went half and half on a place. I must admit, I did miss living here and was secretly bursting with joy. Her mother had been taking care of me for as long as I can remember, kind of like a second mom. When walked up the driveway, she ran up to me and began to ask a million questions.
"Are you okay? How long will you have the brace? Do you need me to go beat those two?!" I couldn't do anything but smile. I really did miss her.
My parents (and grandma) had come with us, and when we were in the house, my grandma made a bee line for the kitchen. "Have yall gone grocery shopping recently?" she asked as she pulled out the pots and pans. "Yes ma'am. As a matter of fact, we were putting up the food when we got the call." Ms. Rogers said. She had gotten me a blanket, so I was curled up on the couch.
"Scooch."
