"Friend time."
I knew what this meant. It means "Let's go talk because I'm extremely depressed." I was used to it and was glad that he trusted me to see him vulnerable.
When we got back in the house, he dragged me to his room and closed the door. See, this was something very sacred, so nobody was allowed to witness what we talked about in friend time.
"Is there something wrong with me?"
The question caught me by surprise. Something wrong with Lucas? No way. He was perfect: The way he laughed, or when he puts his locs in a ponytail. I'm amazed every time I see him. "There's nothing wrong with you besides your taste in women," I said jokingly. "Yeah, you right, but those are the only women who want me," he continued, "every other type of girl thinks that because I'm rich, I don't know how to be a gentleman."
"I don't think that, does that make me like Precious?"
He looked up at me with hopeful eyes. "And why don't you think like that," he asked with curiosity in his voice. "Because I know you," I said, "And know you would never do anything that would harm me. I feel safest when I'm around you." He just looked at me blankly, then suddenly erupted.
"Why didn't I notice before right now!?" It made me jump to hear him yell like that. Then he suddenly looked at me. "And why didn't you tell me," He asked aggressively. "Tell you what?" This was getting a little confusing. "That you liked me," he said, "I would've gladly dated you, but you wanted to be selfish."
"How in the world was I being selfish? I didn't think you even saw me like that, and I didn't want ruin our friendship!"
"Because you didn't tell me that I could've been with the girl of my dreams!"
"How is that my- "
"What?"
"Did you just call me the girl of your dreams?" Lucas' eyes widened. He began to nod slowly. "The reason I talked to you in the 1st grade was because I was amazed with your beauty; the way your hair falls, your smile, the way you where clothing. It's enough to make a man get down on one knee."
"Y'know, this is the first time you've flirted with me and meant it," I said trying not to blush. "Every time I flirted with you," he said pulling me in, "I meant it." He grabbed my cheek and kissed me. When he pulled away from me, I was still in shock. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfort-," I cut him off. "No, it just... caught me by surprise, that's all."
He was about to kiss me again, but I stopped him, "I don't want to date you, at least not right now. We both just got out of toxic relationships. I just want this to be real, not just a rebound."
"Whatever you wanna do, love."
He calls me that all the time, but something about this one made my heart skip a beat. I left his room and went into Rose's. Her and Susan were making out, and I was about to turn back around when Rose saw me. "What were you doing in Lucas' room," She asked. "Friend time," I answered as I eyed Susan kissing Rose's neck. "Watch it Susan, I don't wanna have to hunt you down." She scooted away from Rose, and I sat where she was. "You don't have to look out for me all the time. Plus, we're the same age," she complained.
"I'm older by 6 months and I'm already in college. I am superior," I bragged. She pretended like she was bowing before me, and we both laughed. To be honest, the reason why I was being so overprotective was because something was off about Susan. I didn't want to say anything, but I saw the was her eyes widened when I said Sarah's name at dinner.
"You taking top bunk," Rose asked as she grabbed an extra set of pillows and covers. "I'm not sleeping beneath you two, there ain't no telling what yall be doing at night." I wasn't kidding. If the bed shakes too much, I'm going and sleeping on the couch. They just smirked and got in bed. I climbed up to the top bunk and fell asleep almost instantly. I was woken up because I had a call, from Peter.
"What do you want, cheater?"
"To talk. Listen, I know you're mad, but I miss you and want you back."
"What do you need me for when you got little miss sunshine?"
"That was only once."
"Oh, please, Sarah already told me how long you guys have been sleeping together. So cut the bull."
"Fine, but... don't make me your enemy, you couldn't handle it."
"You don't know what I can handle, and you been my enemy since slept with my ex-best friend."
"Does she know she's your ex-best friend?"
"Unless she's too stupid to get the memo, then yes."
"Okay, NATALIE."
"Call me that again, and you'll find out just how crazy I am, Peterson."
"Don't call me that dumb bi-"
I hung up, he was getting on my last nerve. I blocked him and Sarah on every social media platform I had. Not only that, but I cancelled the payment that I was going to make this month since Sarah decided to quit her job last month. I am not the one, the two or the three.
I had slept like I had never slept before that night. It was heavenly.
