𝐀𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 her pillow when the sun rose. She groaned and rubbed her eyes as someone knocked on the door of Dionysius's cabin.
"Dad, what do you want. Yes, I just woke up-" the door swung open and Chiron came in. His hooves clicked against the empty cabin as Aureliano stood up out of her bed. She brushed pieces of lint off of her pajamas.
"Hello, Aureliano," Chiron said, folding his hands.
"Good morning, Chiron," Aureliano replied. She faked a smile.
"I was just curious, do you know where Dionysius hid his wine?" Chiron wondered.
"Why? Ya want some?" Aureliano joked, chuckling. Chiron frowned and the daughter of Dionysius stopped laughing. "No, I don't know where he hid it." Chiron stepped towards a closet next to Aureliano's bed. He opened it and frowned, turning around and seeing Dionysius and Aureliano laughing together.
"You would really believe my daughter?" Dionysius joked, fist bumping his only daughter. Chiron groaned and stomped out of the cabin. The demigod and god duo continued to laugh.
"Okay, I'll see you at breakfast, papa," Aureliano said. "But can I keep the wine? Please?" She gives her dad puppy eyes.
"Aurlie, I'll think about it," Dionysius replied, fixing his Hawaiian shirt and walking out of the cabin. He slammed the door and Aureliano huffed. She searched her closet for a decent shirt since she's allowed to wear whatever she wants. So, she picked out a white tank top and dark blue denim shorts. Aureliano took a miniature brush to make her hair decent looking. She sighed, feeling the extreme temptation to lay back down on her bed and go to sleep. But, she resisted the urge to.
Alone, she sat at a picnic table with the rest of the demigods. Now that all of the news about Percy returning the lightning bolt and Luke leaving camp and working for Kronos had died down, there was really nothing interesting to talk about all the time. Unfortunately for Aureliano, all of her main friends were off for the rest of the year. Off, back at a safe and comfortable home. Off, back in school with their peers. Off, back in freedom. Not sleeping in an empty cabin with just your own thoughts. Not just preparing for Capture the Flag everyday. Not just bothering her dad on the daily.
While Aureliano sat alone, Gavin Holland talked to his friends. Ezra Kline used a plastic fork to cut up pieces of his sausage and scrambled eggs, watching as Anthem Declan sipped her orange juice.
"So, that one guy. Wilson, or whatever? So hot," Anthea mentioned. Gavin chuckled quietly.
"Do what you want, Anne." Ezra started to choke on his eggs. Gavin stood up and patted his back aggressively, leading to tiny pieces of sausage patties to fly out of his mouth. Anthea grimaced.
"Thanks, Gavin!" Ezra exclaimed cheerfully. Gavin just nodded quietly, since he was a pretty quiet kid. People believed he didn't have a lot to say. His friends insisted that he didn't know how to say it.
"Well, my appetite is ruined," Anthea groaned.
"You didn't even take a bite out of your cereal!" Ezra expressed, motioning to the full plastic bowl of almond milk and honey flavored cereal. Gavin turned around to see Dionysius staring down at the young girl, Lavender Snyder. Lavender and her other friends, Lyla Reid and Izara Stumper, threw broken pieces of beads at the god of wine.
"You know, I'm too sober for this," Dionysius muttered. "Alright, kids. Today is a free day, since tomorrow is Capture the Flag." Many campers cheered, especially Aureliano. Izara snickered and sipped her water.
"Can we just not do anything?" Two teenage girls requested. It was Baek YeEun and Rayne Summerfield, two of the bubbliest teens at the Greek camp.
"Yeah, it's just so boring at camp. Like, can we just-"
"Kids, do you think I actually care what y'all do?" Dionysius cut off Rayne, rolling his eyes. "Just, go, okay?" The two girls rolled their eyes and giggled as they walked past another loner, Noelle Valentina Wang. She rarely talked to anyone, but she did notice Baek. She thought she was too bubbly, but did agree that she was pretty. Stupidly pretty. But she kept that quiet in her head, especially since she had no one to rant to.
Aureliano decided to spend the day bothering her dad and sword fighting with a guy named Wilson Reid, also known as Will. Their swords clashed as Will as he smirked at the blond girl.
"You know, for a kid of Dionysius, you can fight really well beautiful," Will complimented, plopping the sword on the ground. Dust raised from the ground. Aureliano rolled her eyes.
"You flirt with everyone, Will, but thanks," Aureliano responded, feeling a little awkward. She felt her stomach churn. "Well, I'm gonna walk on the beach. See you later?" The blond girl held out her hand to shake Will's.
"See you later, Aurlie," Will replied, shaking it. The girl walked out of the woods and back onto the main area of camp. She recalled standing there with the rest of the campers as Serena and Percy arrived back at camp. She of course thought that they did extremely well, but she wish that she was there instead. She wish that she had the same bond that Serena and Percy had, remembering the two embracing tightly. It was sweet, of course, but she still wished that she was them.
Once she finally got to the beach, she sat down near the shore. The sun was beginning to set as her fingers ran through the beige sand. She let her hands touch the water. Nothing could get better than that. Nothing could ruin the current state of camp. Capture the Flag would be the following day, she would win, and she could annoy her dad.
But she didn't know what would happen in the future. What would happen to one of the younger children. Who would be betrayed. The darkness that the future would hold for a large group of teenage kids.
