Simon was at Betty's show. He couldn't help but notice that she kept her eyes glued to him throughout her entire performance. He wasn't exactly sure why, but there was an undeniable blush on her face.
After the show as he was leaving, Simon suddenly felt the tight grip of someone's hand pull him away from the crowd. The person pulled him backstage before he got the chance to see their face, but once they got there he saw that it was her — Betty Grof!
"Have I.. seen you before?" She asked.
______________________________
Simon felt a bit intimidated by this version of Betty. She was clearly drawn to him... maybe it was because they were meant to be in every universe? But this was different.. this was Betty, but not his Betty. Nothing could replace Betty... not even Betty.
But there was no denying that he felt sparks inside from the way she looked at him. How could he not? It was almost like fate had reunited him with his beloved.
"Does the name Simon Petrikov ring a bell for you..?" He asked.
He wasn't sure if Betty and him had even met In this universe. She was so different...
"Simon... hmm," She replied. The name felt familiar to her. "I feel like we have... Simon..."
"I.. I feel like we have too..." He said nervously. She couldn't know the truth.
Simon's felt a lingering of sadness in his heart from talking to Betty. In his world, it had been twelve years since he'd lost her. Nothing could've prepared him for this. He just wanted to freeze time and count the hundreds of freckles on her face. With the sound of her sweet voice filling his ears, he couldn't help but hang on to every word she said.
He needed to hear more of her.
He knew he needed to see more of her, too.
But he was out of ideas... what could he possibly have to talk about? What was he supposed to say? By the way, I'm from another world and I'm engaged to a dead version of you? No, that couldn't do...
He decided to say the next thing that came to mind.
"Hey um..." He started. "This may seem crazy but... would you like to go out for drinks some time? It doesn't have to be alcohol, it can be coffee, tea... hot coco... juice... even water. On me, of course."
Betty's eyes widened, she'd never been asked on an actual date before. Her heart practically skipped a beat. She liked hearing this man's voice and seeing him close to her. Just by looking at him she felt butterflies in her stomach and a fluttering in her heart for reasons she couldn't quite pin down. There was something about him for sure.
"Uhm... I would love to, thank you."
She smiled shyly and looked away for a moment, then quickly met his eyes again before she giggled."Actually, I was hoping to get you alone somewhere myself."
"O-Oh!" Simon stuttered, his cheeks immediately flushing red at her advance. He hadn't meant that, but he wasn't exactly opposed to her offer...
"I'd u-uh.. I'd like that. But maybe it would be best for us to get aquatinted first."
"So.. what do you say, Betty?" He added with a smile.
Betty couldn't resist the way he fumbled with his words and blushed from his nervousness. It was almost too cute! Her smile only grew at him.
"I agree, you seem like quite the catch, but I don't want us to rush into anything. After all, we haven't known each other for that long."
She tilted her head for a moment as she considered other possibilities."What about tomorrow evening then? We could go get drinks and go dancing. I know this really nice karaoke club nearby."
"That sounds great! I'd really like that."
Simon searched his pocket for a notepad and pulled it out along with a pen, writing his number on a sheet of paper before tearing it out and handing it to Betty, who probably could've just entered his contact info into her phone. She figured he was just old-fashioned.
"Thank you." She said, the excitement clear in her voice as she tucked the sheet of paper into her pocket.
"I'll see you tomorrow!" Simon said with a smile as he picked up his bag and left with a bit more pep in his step than he had when he entered.
"See you tomorrow." Betty replied with a smile, and it wasn't until the door closed behind Simon that she started to realize just how much she'd been looking forward to that date.
For whatever reason, it was hard to believe that this was happening. But seeing him leave she was already impatiently awaiting tomorrow.
Betty was used to meeting fans, but there was something about this Simon. Her colorful concerts and modern music didn't exactly seem like his scene, he was so proper, he seemed intelligent and well put together... I mean, what kind of person wears a suit and tie to a pop concert?
As soon as the door shut behind Simon, he leaned against it and sunk down to the floor, his heart sinking along with him.
"Damn it, Simon! What did you just do?" He thought to himself. He had literally JUST been telling himself his Betty was irreplaceable, then he goes and asks this Betty out on a date? He really let himself get carried away...
But at the same time, he couldn't blame himself. He'd been so lonely and he'd been grieving for so long, of course his mind, heart, and soul all only wanted one thing... They wanted Betty back.
Desperately.
Betty on her end meanwhile was thinking through how exciting tomorrow would be. Everything that she knew about this new Simon suggested he was a charming, sweet, and funny man. Her heart fluttered in her chest at the thought of him.
And yet she had this nagging feeling, gnawing at her subconscious mind, that there was something more to this man than she could understand. Maybe it was because of how similar they were? Or maybe it was just because this was the first time anyone had ever asked her out before. She was flattered, but confused. This Simon was so different than any man she'd ever met. Usually men only wanted one thing from her and would leave her when she didn't give it, yet Simon didn't take it when she offered it.
Though they'd only just met, Betty could tell Simon was a true gentleman.
Neither of them could wait to see each other again.
