4.5- Benny's POV

"She sounds so cool" DeNunez said in response to Small's story "why isn't she playing with us?"
"Team Captain Grouchy Pants over here" Smalls said, gesturing to me
"I bet he's worried she'll be better than him" Squints said
"Shut up Squints. You don't know nothin"
"Yeah but I do" Ham said "she's got Phillips in the palm of her hand, seriously I bet she's his next catch. Such a player"
"Shut up Ham!"
"Ooh is The Jet jealous?" I gripped my bat tighter.
"Lay off him guys" Smalls stood up for me "he's right you don't know nothin. Come on Benny"

Smalls and I began walking home.
"You're such an idiot you know Benny"
"What?"
"Let the girl play with us"
"You're just like the rest of them Smalls, never thinking there might be something you don't know about, some reason-"
"I do know actually. Ash told me"
"Ash told you? What did she say?"
"Stuff I can't tell you. But I will say this, she really regrets leaving you Benny, she's really cut up about it and it's messing with her head. The only problem is she doesn't know what a bad guy Phillips is, she still sees him as the person he was when you were kids"
"Tell me about it" I groaned "I bet she still likes him"
"Well actually..."
"She does doesn't she? That àsshole has his hooks into her again"
"She's beginning to see him for the jerk he is, I can tell a confrontation's coming. And" he said with a conspiratorial grin "you might have more chance with her than you think"
