Summary: Commander Fox hated working with Jedi, especially y/n, but when bounty hunters held the two hostage, she changed his mind.
Nothing that day was going well for me. While chasing a criminal on my own, the Coruscant guard had arrested me for "trespassing" on their territory.
I sat inside my unit, waiting for a member of the guard to come. "Commander y/l/n" I stood up looking at the clone in red armour standing in front of the laser door. "Commander fox, no matter how many times our paths cross you will always be an unpleasant sight "
He walked into my unit and sat down right across from me. "Commander, would you mind telling me why you were trespassing on The Republic Central Judiciary Detention Center at such a late hour? Not to mention the fact that you were fully armed?"
"I was chasing an important bounty hunter who I believe is working with the Separatists to carry out an attack on the Senate. If it weren't for you he wouldn't have got away"
"Would you have proof of this?"
"Commander Fox I am a well-respected Jedi general. You are in no authority -"
"I answer only to the chancellor, I do not serve nor do I answer to the Jedi order."
It was no secret that the Fox was not a big fan of the Jedi. Rather the opposite. I could sense that he thought of us as stuck-ups who had just been put into a position of power.
I rolled my eyes and sat down. "Commander Fox, please use some common sense. My loyalty lies to the republic just as yours"
"We aren't here to discuss to whom or where our loyalty lies. Commander. We are here to discuss your potential plan of attack on the Coruscant guard."
"Plan of a- Commander Fox do hear yourself?" I never understood why being such an asshole was so important to him. Not to mention that chancellor Palpatine was quite fond of Fox and encouraged this behaviour. Only a blind person could not see the fact that Fox was being used.
"If you were truly carrying out a pursuit of a bounty hunter, why hasn't the Coruscant guard been notified of the threat?
Because I don't like you guys. I thought to myself. I was about to open my mouth to speak when the sirens went off, Fox reached for his intercom, "Thorn what the hell is going on?!"
Though the answer was something I didn't expect to hear, or more importantly: someone. In return, the voice of a bounty hunter I know all too well sounded from the intercom.
"Commander Fox. You would be glad to know that I have taken your Detention Center hostage." Fox jumps up from his place. "Open the door!" be ordered to the clone outside my unit. The clone was about to open the unit door, but a laser blast shot right through him.
"Commander Y/L/N this is a pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting to see you here"
"Bane" I draw my hand towards my lightsaber on instinct, realizing it's not there. "Not so threatening without your saber Y/L/N"
"What do you want Cad Bane" Fox's voice echoes in the room. "Do not worry Commander. My team is only here for some important files. We will download them and be on our way."
"What you are doing is a crime" Fox blurts out. I try not to laugh at his remark. "No shit Sherlock," I say on impulse. "You two seem to get along quite well, hope you won't mind spending some time together while I get my business done." Cad Bane glares at me and orders a small fish guy in heavy machinery to look after me and Fox.
Great. ...
"If you would have believed me, this wouldn't have happened. "
"I was following orders" Fox spits the phrase out like venom.
"Your loyalty to the chancellor fails you. You follow orders blindly, not thinking for yourself"
"You Jedi, you think you are so high for making your own choices. You were born with the force, you didn't put anything into this life."
I can feel my blood boil. " And you think you're so much better -"
"I am" Fox's voice is sharp and certain. "I have loyalties. I am a good soldier, I follow orders."
"You follow orders of others, you don't think for yourself. Tell me when was the last time you saw your face, and took off that helmet?"
I could feel a moment of hesitation. "This helmet is what I have worked for, It is what I have earned. Years of training on Kamino and service to the republic had brought me here. This helmet is proof of my service, of loyalty to my brothers."
"Don't dare compare yourself to your brothers, you're only a clone from the outside. In reality, you're as droid as they get "
I can feel the fury in Fox peaks, but it falls within moments. I feel the shift of emotional thoughts running through his head. "You're wrong." His voice trails off.
"You don't have to be like this-"
"No" His voice got softer.
"Take off your helmet Fox" I reached out my hand and placed it on his shoulder.
His body paused. Carefully he raised his arms and took off his helmet. I didn't know what I was expecting, but not this. He was an average clone. There was nothing about him that caught the eye. Except the fact that he was way younger than I had imagined, most likely around my age.
I looked into his eyes. "See, you are human, not a droid. You are allowed to make your own decisions"
"I'm sorry... commander " His voice is uncertain. Questioning his choice. The phrase caught me off guard.
"I'm sorry, I should have heard you out first. I could have prevented this"
"It's okay Fox"
He looked outside the unit, hesitating for a second. "When the senate sends you away to find Cad Bane, I will come with you, I caused this, I should help you fix it. "
I couldn't help, but smile. Finally, I had gotten through to Fox. In truth, I always felt bad for him. Having the chancellor manipulate you, was never the best experience.
"Don't blame yourself Fox. This isn't fully your fault"
A small smirk crossed his face. "You never change commander "
