ACT TWO-PART TEN

Ashton curled into his bed as his father paced downstairs. It was the first time Ashton had been in his own bed since Elaine had found out about him.

But he hated it here. The room still smelled of the limited edition perfume his mother would always wear a touch too strong, the pen she wrote with still at his desk, uncapped and no doubt dried out by now. It was just a reminder. A reminder of her.

Ashton wouldn't say her death made him suddenly regret all of their fights, their differences. But it made him wish he had tried harder, tried to make her understand that he wasn't just another monster. He hated her, part of him probably always will.

But the child in him still yearned for her, still wanted to be held by her, to hear her say 'I love you' one more time, to be sung a lullaby at night.

Allison had nearly fallen apart all over again when she finally tore herself out of the hospital room, immediately noticing the state of her brother. But she didn't go to him, she walked past him. Ashton had long collected himself by the time she saw him, but she didn't need to see him on the floor to see the tear stains that still lingered on his face.

And that's what crushed him. Not his mother's death, Allison's reaction to him. The look in her eyes, it was like she blamed him, just for being a part of Derek's pack.

Elaine, for once, kept her mouth closed. She didn't say a word when Ashton walked through the door with his family, not even Gerard seemed to budge by the scene.

The arguing and war could start again tomorrow, but today, it could be put on a hold. Just for a night, at least.

Ashton heard the crashes and breaking in his twins room. He knew he should help, honor their mother's wishes, leave Derek behind, be a pillar to Allison. But he couldn't.

He belonged with Derek and the others, and Allison had shown little interest in being around him for the time being.

So, all he did, was sit up. Pulling himself from the bed, his heavy legs carrying him towards his bedroom door.

He wasn't shocked to see Gerard outside his door, but he was shocked to see the knife in his hand.

"Take this." Gerard spoke, handing the knife to Ashton. "And kill him with it."

Ashton gripped the knife, and blinked. It was only a second, but for him, it felt like an eternity. Just a forever dream of darkness.

The knife clattered to the hallway as Ashton dropped it, his eyes locked onto Gerard's. No remorse, guilt, or hesitation. Derek was his pack, Erica was his pack, Boyd was his pack, Isaac was his pack, Scott was his pack, Stiles was his pack, Lydia was his pack, Jackson was his pack.

He was their protecter, their guard. They came before anyone, and anything. Even the code.

"Goodbye, Gerard." Ashton spoke, walking past his grandfather and down the hallway.

Maybe later he would let his heart race as his eyes met his father's and Elaine's. But for now, he couldn't afford that.

Ashton could feel that something was happening, that something else had transpired. He needed to find Derek.

It wasn't long before Ashton found himself in front of the sheriff station, Derek beside him.

The alpha had yet to speak to Ashton, and he had even seemed scared when Ashton walked into the hale house.
