ACT THREE-PART THREE

"You knew?" Derek questioned as he walked through the trails, Ashton by his side. Aspen had already went home, wherever that was. The three weren't quite ready to announce their reunion to everyone. At least not now.

"I felt it." Ashton muttered with a shrug, flicking his wrist and letting a flame cover the tips of his fingers, spreading to his knuckles to give him better sight.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Derek pressed on, his eyes flickering around and between the trees. Trying to catch sight of the two out of control betas.

"Because I couldn't be sure. I felt it with Jackson too, but then he came back." Ashton shrugged, side stepping to avoid a dead snake as they kept walking. "Besides- you wouldn't have believed me anyways. You couldn't accept it until you saw her for yourself."

"It just gives me even more reason to go after Deucalion. He goes after my son, and then Erica? What's his motive?" Derek questioned quietly, shaking his head as he pulled out his phone, answering the annoying ringing.

"You lost them? Wasn't exactly the plan." Derek questioned with a raised eyebrow, listening to a muffled voice of Scott on the other line before continuing. "Look, I'm at the trails by the entrance to the preserve. Can you meet me here?"

Ashton cursed inwardly as he followed behind Derek, shaking his hand to put out the flames. "Remind me why I came back from London."

Ashton sighed as he glanced around, sliding his hands into his pockets. He paused, however, as his eyes met blue.

A coyote.

"You coming?" Derek called, looking over his shoulder to Ashton as he continued to walk forward.

"Yeah, right behind you." Ashton whispered, his brows furrowing in confusion at the coyote, who only sat and stared in return. Ashton tore his gaze away, jogging to catch up with Derek before looking behind him again. Only this time, the coyote was gone.

Ashton lazily sat against the wall of the school, absentmindedly twirling a knife between his fingers to pass the time.

After Scott's glorious plan to include Chris, Ashton was almost immediately sent to the school to pose as bait. Not that Ashton minded, it gave him a chance away, a chance to think.

Erica was dead. Boyd was alive and out of control. Cora, who Ashton thought was dead, was also alive. The entire fucking time. God knows what was running through Derek's head.

"You shouldn't be so stupid." Ashton chuckled as he stood up, flinging the knife away from himself, his head tilting to the side when it was caught, a pale hand wrapping around the blade and stopping it midair. "Why are you here?"

"Wanted to have a little chat." Aiden answered as he flung the knife to the side with a lazy flick of his wrist, walking towards Ashton with an amused, condescending expression.

"I have no interest in speaking to you, Ian." Ashton replied with an undeniable hated lacing his every word. His every breath, even fiber in him despised Aiden.

"Yet you still use that annoying nickname." Aiden mused, stopping once he was a few feet from Ashton.

"Old habits die hard." Ashton replied, crossing his arms over his chest, eyes narrowed at the alpha.

Ashton's eyes flickered to the side, eyebrow suddenly raising when he caught side of the glowing blue eyes coming from the far tree line. "What are you doing here?" Ashton questioned, but he knew he wouldn't be able to receive a vocal reply. So, instead, he settled for the faint dimming of blue before it brightened again. The only answer he would be receiving for the time being.
