CHAPTER 4: Step by Step ★

Two turned around after leaving Shuttle on the bed behind them, beginning to look through a plastic bag of items they got from the shop.

"Just bear with me Shuttles.. just gonna.. look through here and..."

They soon pulled out a soft-felt green blanket with a little embroidered dinosaur on it and held it out Infront of Shuttle.

"Look what I fouuunnnnddd!!!" Two playfully exclaimed while cheerfully holding up the blanket, almost stimming at this point. "A lil itty bitty blannkeett!!"

Shuttle started waving xeir hands about while smiling, xe seemed to really like the dinosaur blanket so much xey started stimming too. Xey held their hands out and tried to grab it until Two stopped xem.

"Hey!! Hahaha.. Hold still for a second.." Two said as they proceeded to wrap Shuttle in the blanket while Shuttle stuck her tongue out in a playful manner, making the duo exchange their hyperactiveness with eachother on accident.

"That's not all though, I gotcha sum MORE goodies!!" Two was eager as they turned around and peered back into the bag again, turning back with a silly little grin as they held something behind their back. "Jusstt wait Shuttless!!"

Shuttle looked them up and down eagerly as star felt the warmth of star new blanket, before looking confused towards the new item as two revealed it to be a large fluffy grey bunny plush.

"I got ya a new stuffie!! That gecko one is.. kinda old... but I understand if it's a comfort item since it's been with ya for so long!!" They explained while setting the rabbit down next to them, before noticing Shuttle's look and growing concerned. "Oh.. did I.. do something wrong, Shuttles?"

Shuttle's confusion turned into curiosity as he set down Squishy, before gently picking up the rabbit plush, almost squeaking from excitement at how soft it felt in his arms. Two had turned away again to look in the bag, taking out three more items: a sippy, a pacifier and a strange rubber stick with a rope attached to it.

"Now Shuttles, I just wanna ask you something. I got you two things... (Well technically five but uh.. that's besides the point!) I'll hand you one at a time and I want you to nod if you think you like it." They spoke, before continuing while having the pacifier and the rubber stick in one hand before sitting on the bed next to Shuttle. "This is a chew toy, I noticed how you had problems with chewing and biting.. (and using my arms as a chew toy, but that I don't really mind, I think it's cute!!) there's a rope around it so you can hang it from your neck, like this!"

Two then tried to put the chew toy around Shuttle's neck, but it fell due to him being so small.

"Oh, well aren't YOU small?" They joked, sassy while Shuttle picked it up and tried to bite it, however the stick was too big for his mouth as he just kept trying to bite the end, which made it really uncomfortable for him. He eventually spat it out and angrily stuck his tongue at Two, who laughed at his angriness and joked about taking slight offense.

"Hey!! Don't stick your tongue out at me, young man!!" They chuckled, before noticing Shuttle kind of spacing out. "Shuttles? OH.. was it the "young man" thing?"

Shuttle nodded.

"Well... to explain it more.. you ARE young.. 5 years old on Goiky.. so... I guess that makes you 5 years old? and the "man" thing.. it's..." Two paused, before continuing.

"Yeah to be honest I have no idea what gender is yet."

Two got up and looked inside the bookshelf. "This room isn't really fit for someone your "age" really.. I'll make it work though!! Just a few bits and pieces... Aha!!" They found a dictionary and began flipping through the pages before stopping at the word "gender". "Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, girls and boys that are socially constructed. This includes norms, behaviours and roles associated with being a woman, man, girl or boy, as well as relationships with each other. As a social construct, gender varies from society to society and can change over time"
