James was exhausted by the time they saw the sun come up. He was leaning against a tree when he saw Ellie crying, he decided it'd be best to give her space but she walked over to him and hugged him. He felt his heart melt as he felt her tears on his shirt and he held her close as he teared up, too. Vee sat next to them with a cooked head and he looked down at Ellie and held her shoulders "We'll find him, okay? I promise we will.." she choked "What if he's gone-?" He shook his head "He's Joel fucking Miller Ellie, he ain't goin anywhere.." He smiled and she did, too.

A little while later he started yelling for Joel, he didn't want Ellie too close to him incase any infected came near him. After about an hour he looked up at the sun and took his thumb up to see the distance, he turned around and whistled for Vee and waved at Ellie to go back to camp.
"It's lunch time, c'mon now!" He yelled out as he grabbed the pan and started the fire "Whaddya think, eggs or .." He smiled as he pulled a can from behind his back "Pudding?" Ellie smiled "Holy shit! Where did you find that?" He chuckled "At an old factory, I actually have multiple of them but we shouldn't eat them too fast." He smiled as he opened it with his knife and scooted it over to Ellie. He chuckled as he grabbed some on a spoon and sling spotted it in her face she looked up with her mouth hung open as she grabbed hers with a smile and a chuckle "O-oh-ohh you've done it now!" When they went back and fourth and after awhile they went down to the creek to get washed up.

James looked around and he spotted something shine in the sun and he got up and picked it up .. it was Joel's watch "Hey, Ellie?" He turned around and showed it to her and she got up and a tear fell "We have to find him James.." He nodded and they both went back to camp, James woke up Vee and they un-pitched the tent and thy were off.
James soon got to the river bank and helped Ellie and Vee down. Although Vee was harder since he had to anchor her down to Ellie, but he didn't mind the work as he hopped down. He went near the other side and crouched on one knee "C'mon Ellie," He held out his hand incase she fell and she stepped on his knee and hoisted herself up woth a push in her heel from James. He threw Vee up there, too before climbing up himself. He rolled on his side and he almost fell but Ellie grabbed his shirt and puled him aside before he did "Thanks," He said as he nodded and she nodded, too.

He looked around at the woods around them, it'd been hours and there had been no sign of Joel, not even a footprint of any kind. James was mad at himself for letting him go off on his own, obviously he was hurt but he still could've said something. He realized how far he got into his head and he shook out of it as they reached a clearing. He looked over at Ellie before they pitched their tent again and started eating.
"So, favorite color?" James looked kver atEllie when he heard this and smiled "Green, Definitely green." She laughed "Green? What's so cool about that? I mean, it's everywhere!'' He chuckled at this "I guess that's why I like it." He smiled and she shook her head as she ate her sandwich.

James layed down in the grass listening to the wind move the blades around him. He hadn't felt this way since the farm back home.. he felt calm for once and he smiled as he thought of his sister, how he missed her and how many times they got in trouble for playing with the chickens. He let put a soft sigh as he closed his eyes, when he opened them he frowned, everything was so different now. He thought that maybe they'd be able to live in this dammed place they called the world and live through it together. He sighed and sat up as he pet Vee. As the sun Bagan to set he decided that he'd take point again, he wasn't gonna put Ellie through a restless night.

He sighed as he sat against the tree looking around with his gun ready. Vee was asleep next to Ellie incase anything got close to them, and he made sure to keep a good watch. He looked up at the dark sky as the small dots filled the vast landscape. He closed his eyes thinking of him and his sister playing with their Aunt. He smiled gently and he opened his eyes again to see an infected, he sighed tiredly and grabbed his knife, carefully walking over and quickly jabbing it and twisting it in its skull and as it dropped he walked back with his hand on his eyes, rubbing them tiredly.

When morning came and carefully woke Ellie up and whistled for Vee as she jumped up as if giving him a hug. He pet her and told her to get down. They grabbed the state map and looked at it to see where they were. James looked around and they began yelling for Joel again. "Joel!" James yelled and he spotted a burrow in a tree. He went near it and he quickly began to move the dirt out of the way "Joel!" He wrapped his arms around Joel's shoulders to help.him and drag him out. Ellie came running over as James looked at him. He was cold and he was unconscious "Ellie, grab his feet we're gonna have to carry him to camp." "Carry him?" James looked at her "He's lighter than he looks." He grunted as he picked him up around the arms again and Ellie grabbed his legs. When they got back to camp Ellie layed down next to him as Ja.es leaned on a tree giving the two space. A tear rolled down his eyes and he looked at the sky..
