The evening air was crisp as Brittany and Spencer made their way to the cozy restaurant where Brittany's parents awaited them. A mix of excitement and apprehension churned in Brittany's stomach as she reached for Spencer's hand, seeking comfort in his warm grasp.

As they entered the restaurant, the soft glow of candlelight bathed the room in a warm, inviting ambiance. Brittany's parents, seated at a table near the window, looked up with bright smiles as they caught sight of them.

"Mom, Dad!" Brittany exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine warmth as she hurried over to greet them. Spencer followed close behind, offering a polite nod and a friendly smile as he joined Brittany at the table.

"Brittany, darling, it's so wonderful to see you!" her mother, Barbara, exclaimed, rising from her seat to envelop Brittany in a tight hug. "Hi Spencer," she added, turning her attention to Spencer with a warm smile. "It's lovely to see you again."

Spencer returned her smile with a polite nod. "Likewise, Mrs. Reed."

Brittany's father, Brian, a jovial man with a twinkle in his eye, reached across the table to shake Spencer's hand. "Good to see you, Spencer," he said with a friendly grin. "I hope you've been treating our girl right."

Spencer chuckled, a warmth spreading through him at Brian's friendly banter. "I'm doing my best, sir," he replied with a smile.

"So, Spencer," Barbara began, her voice filled with curiosity, "How long have you and Brittany been back together?"

Spencer's brows furrowed slightly, caught off guard by the question. He glanced at Brittany, silently imploring her for guidance. Brittany flashed him a quick, reassuring smile before turning her attention to her parents.

"We've been... back together for a while now," Brittany replied smoothly, her tone confident yet diplomatic. "Honestly we were both just being dramatic, but we're in a good place now."

Brian nodded, a knowing smile playing at his lips. "Ah, young love," he remarked with a chuckle. "It's never easy, but it's worth it in the end."

Spencer offered a polite nod, though inwardly, he couldn't shake the discomfort of the half-truths they were weaving. He stole a furtive glance at Brittany.

Barbara's eyes sparkled with interest as she looked at them "Well, I'm glad you guys are back together." she replied warmly. "You two make a lovely couple."

As Brittany spun their web of deception, Spencer felt a knot tighten in his stomach, a silent turmoil brewing beneath his calm exterior. He forced a tight-lipped smile, but inside, the weight of their lie pressed heavily on his conscience.

With a heavy sigh, Brittany's resolve solidified. She couldn't bear to see Spencer looking so worried and uncomfortable. The thought of him carrying the weight of their deception was enough to make her stomach churn. In that moment, she would have done anything to ease his burden, to spare him from any further distress.

As she glanced at Spencer, her heart ached at the sight of his furrowed brow and tense posture. He didn't deserve to be caught in this web of lies, and she was determined to set things right, no matter the cost.

In the grand scheme of things, Brittany realized, her parents' opinion mattered little compared to the happiness and well-being of the man sitting next to her. With a newfound sense of determination, she took a deep breath and prepared to speak her truth, consequences be damned.

"Dad, Mom," she began, her voice shaky but resolute, "there's something I need to tell you."

Her parents turned their attention to her, their eyes searching her face for answers.
