As Saturday evening approached, Spencer and Brittany found themselves preparing for a special occasion: Will's birthday party.
The day had been leisurely, with the sun casting a warm glow over the city. Spencer suggested they take a relaxing bath together before heading out.
The bathroom was filled with the scent of lavender, steam rising from the tub as they settled in. Brittany leaned back against the porcelain, letting out a contented sigh as the warm water enveloped her.
"Spencer," Brittany began, her voice carrying a playful tone, " Can you tell me more about your team? What was it like being in the FBI?"
Spencer chuckled, a hint of nostalgia tugging at his features as he recalled his days as an FBI agent. "It was intense, that's for sure. We were like a family, always looking out for each other and working together to get the job done."
Brittany's curiosity was piqued. "Who was your favorite teammate?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
Spencer paused, considering her question. "Hmm, that's a tough one. But if I had to pick, I'd say it was probably Derek. I love all of them though."
Brittany nodded, filing away this new piece of information. "And what about your boss? Was Emily as tough as she seems?"
Spencer couldn't help but smile."Oh, she was tough, all right. But she was also fair and had our backs when it counted. I learned a lot from her and even more from Hotch."
Their conversation flowed effortlessly, each question prompting a new story or anecdote from Spencer's time in the FBI. Brittany was relentless in her curiosity, asking about everything.
As they soaked in the soothing water, the tension of the day melted away, replaced by a sense of intimacy. They laughed and joked, sharing stories and secrets as they savored the simple pleasure of each other's company.
"What about JJ? You get along with her?"
Spencer's hands paused in their task, his expression thoughtful as he considered her question. "Actually, JJ is my best friend," he confessed, a small smile playing on his lips.
Brittany's surprise was evident as she processed his words. "Really?" she exclaimed, a hint of disbelief in her voice. "I had no idea."
Spencer nodded, a warmth in his gaze as he thought of JJ. "Yeah, we've been through a lot together. She's always been there for me, no matter what."
Brittany's brows furrowed in confusion. "But it didn't seem like you two were that close when we had dinner together," she admitted, her tone tinged with skepticism.
Spencer shrugged, a hint of uncertainty in his expression. "I guess we just don't flaunt it. But trust me, she's amazing. I think you'll get along with her."
Brittany's skepticism lingered, though she didn't voice her doubts aloud. Instead, she offered a noncommittal nod, her thoughts swirling with questions and uncertainty as they finished getting ready for the party.
The cozy ambiance of Will's birthday party enveloped her as she stepped into the quaint home, the scent of homemade dishes filling the air. She felt a flutter of excitement mingled with nerves as she scanned the room, taking in the familiar faces of friends.
With a warm smile, she greeted each guest, exchanging pleasantries and catching up on recent events. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, laughter and conversation flowing freely.
With a longing for another slice of chocolate cake, Brittany made her way to the kitchen, the promise of the rich dessert pulling her like a magnet. As she rounded the corner into the cozy space, she was met with the sight of JJ standing by the counter, her back turned as she focused on the task at hand.
