"So, what did you want to tell us?" Ember said to Luna.

Luna rocked a little in her seat. "Okay, uhm... so remember when I told you guys that I wasn't always like this?"

Max nodded.

"So, uhm... I turned when I was seventeen, and that was in the early 2000s, but the person who turned me was named... the master."

"The master?" Max said. "What is he? Some orgy lord?"

Elijah laughed. "That's what I said the first time!"

Max sent him a look, and Elijah dropped his shoulders, rolling his eyes.

"God forbid I try to bond with my other half," he muttered.

Max glared. "You've done so many unforgivable things, Elijah. Some things I will never ever gain back."

"Max," Ember snapped, sending him a look.

He threw his hands up and shrank back in his seat.

Ember gazed back over to Luna. "Continue, Luna."

She parted her lips. "Oh, okay. Uhm, so before I turned, I wasn't like this." She gestured to herself. "I was very academic, and I had straight A's. I was going to college to be a business women." Her eyes darkened then. "But on my seventeenth birthday, my brother and parents were going to take me to a movie, and my parents never showed." Her eyes darkened. "I found them... murdered."

Ember gasped, eyes glittering with tears.

"And so was my brother," she explained. "They were murdered by vampires, but for some reason, they didn't kill me, they turned me." Her voice grew quiet. "I was kidnapped by a man named, the master, and he treated me like a toy, like dog in training. And he whipped me, cut me, abused me, and... tortured me at some points. A couple years ago, I was finally able to escape, and then I found Elijah." She smiled up at him, earning another smile back before she looked back at Ember. "I hid in the shadows, watching Elijah as he tried to get you... and then Meadow, and then when he died, I brought him back."

Ember kept her hands pressed to her mouth, clearly trying to keep her composure.

"Is that why you... act like this, Luna?" Max said then, clearly looking sad now.

"Like a child?" Luna finished, smiling sadly. "Yeah... I don't know why, though. I know what happened and I'm trying to fix it, but... I don't think I can ever grow up again."

He sighed, raking his fingers through his hair.

"So, to answer your question earlier," Elijah said then, making Max gaze up. "No, we are not the ones causing the murders. It's the master. The only murders we cause are getting rid of the master's underlings, and just bad people in general."

"Like the murder of those two rich boys?" Ember inquired, brow arched. "They were bad?"

"Yes, actually," Luna said, making her glance down. "Those rich boys killed a woman's parents so they could marry the woman and get her fortune, but they abused her, and she ran away, but they kept hunting her down. Elijah murdered the first man, and then that man's brother tried to hunt her down again, so Elijah killed him."

Max shook his head. "That's sick. I hate those men."

"So you're an antihero now?" Ember said to Elijah, eyes dulling in boredom.

"What does it matter to you?" he said then.

"Ember," Max said, "at least Elijah's not killing innocent people, okay?"

She sighed and shrank back in her seat.

"So... about this double date," Elijah said. "We're sitting outside. How about we go to an actual restaurant."
